Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Veronica Mossed. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Veronica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
When I started to advance in my photography skills, I planned on upgrading my camera and gifting it to myself for my 20th birthday. My mom and I went to Best Buy together on my birthday and I picked out the camera and lens I’ve been wanting. The sales associate gets the equipment and brings it over to the register and when it was time to pay, my mom pulls out her card and pays for it and tells me “This is my gift to you. Happy Birthday.” This was the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me. Not only was she gifting me this camera, but this was her way of investing in me because she knew I was extremely passionate about photography. I’ll never forget that day.
Veronica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Veronica Mossed, an editorial/fashion photographer based in North Carolina. Editorial photography is a type of photography that aims to tell a story or portray a concept. When I was younger I’ve always loved taking photos of people and capturing their natural beauty and that’s when I started learning about editorial photography and how to practice that. I became self taught by watching YouTube videos, following photographers on Instagram, and connecting with other photographers/models in the area to work with. I began to put concepts together and reach out to local models who can bring my ideas to life. Not only do I love taking photos, I love putting concepts together, helping models pose, figuring out new lighting techniques, etc. It’s a whole craft I love doing aside from taking photos. Once I got better at that and started taking bookings seriously, I started my business, Visuals by Veronica.
What sets me apart in the photography industry is my creativity, concepts, and helping my clients pose. When a potential client inquires about a photoshoot, I like to gather their ideas and inspirations and then contribute some of my own ideas and share it with them. 9 times out of 10 clients typically bring up the issue of not knowing how to pose and I assure them that I’m there to help them pose, pick out outfits, hairstyle, makeup, and whatever else they need for their photoshoot to be successful!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing my vision come to life and receiving the most heartfelt responses from my clients when I deliver their gallery. It pushes me to do better and reminds me why I love photography so much.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I began my photography Instagram account when I was in college as something fun to do with no intentions of growing it, I just wanted to post pretty pictures. Every photoshoot I did that aligned with my style of photography, I’d post it. Instagram is also good for connecting with other creatives in the industry and that’s something I’d advise people to do. Connect with them and share information/ideas amongst each other. I think posting on Instagram has become so attached to the idea of always being aesthetic, but I say just post your work and everything after that will follow and you will grow.
