We were lucky to catch up with Veronica Marie recently and have shared our conversation below.
Veronica , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes my makeup career was my only income for well over 3 years. When i moved to Georgia from Baltimore in 2019 I put my makeup business in overdrive. I joined Facebook groups pertaining to makeup and creatives. I did ALOT of jobs for free before i made any type of real money. I had to step out of my comfort zone and make connections. I reached out to photographers models & hairstylist. I did a lot of collabs. That’s how i got most of my clients in the beginning. Then once people saw my work and professionalism they hired me.
Veronica , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is VeronicaMarie and my business name is PrettyBeat Beauty Bar. I always had a passion for drawing and that turned into having a love for makeup. I started doing makeup in 2010. I took an online makeup class and earned a certificate. I also graduated from beauty school. In the beginning my friends would let me practice on them. I truly appreciate them for the support. I did a close friend’s makeup for her wedding. I realized i loved the feeling of making women feel pretty. And it’s not just the outer beauty. Our conversations that we have while they’re getting their makeup done is healing to a lot of them. My motto is Enhancing your God given beauty. Most of my clients are boudoir & brides. I specialize in makeup under 45 mins. That’s excluding my brides. I’m so blessed to have made the connections that I’ve made from doing makeup. Some of my dearest friends started out as clients.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is seeing your vision come to life. I love to see the idea i had in my head on my client’s faces. I do my best work when they give me the go ahead to be creative. That’s when i let my creative juices flow. Every client is different that’s why i get to know them while they sit in my chair. So i can have an idea of what makeup look will fit their personality.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My social media page in the beginning was all over the place. I was posting often but it wasn’t cohesive. I had to revamp my page many times. I had to focus on my niche’. What makes me different? What makes me stand out? I narrowed it down to me doing makeup in under 45 minutes. My clients would always tell me they loved how quickly & efficiently i did my job. So that became my selling point.
