Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Veronica Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Veronica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
The most important lesson learned from a prior job I had was to bet on yourself and have confidence in your skills. A prior job left me feeling unfulfilled, less than, and thinking that my ideas had no value. This was a position where any opinion on a matter would be seen as a direct defiance to my superior. After leaving, I realized how important my ideas were, how valuable of an employee I was, and how much more I was able to contribute in a healthy working environment. Leaving that job meant a huge change for me, and trying something I had never done before. It was scary and I was unsure, but betting on my skills and talents definitely led to the wonderful position I’m in now.
Veronica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an attorney that specializes in torts and civil rights defense. I also do federal appeals and have written multiple appellate briefs to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to my current position, I was a criminal prosecutor but made the switch to civil law nearly 3 years ago. In this time practicing in this new area of law, I am most proud of having an oral argument before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and having the Court affirm my position and publish their opinion on it. I believe what has set me apart is my work ethic, my ability to work with others, and my continued effort to foster a working environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued. Additionally, I became a content creator during the pandemic, where I focus on natural hair care and beauty. This was a necessary outlet during the pandemic and beyond to really express myself and find a community.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Natural hair content is definitely a passion of mine and finding a community and encouraging others to be fully embrace their natural hair is so important to me. Thankfully, the thoughts behind natural hair have progressed, but for many people, it’s still something difficult to manage or learn. I hope to show others that not only is natural hair beautiful, but also, with the right techniques and products, cab be easily managed. The goal is to further help women embrace their natural hair and beauty.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspects of being and artists is definitely knowing how I helped or impacted others. I will get messages asking me about hairstyles, hair products, and techniques. I love knowing I could help influence someone to find a better way of doing something or just feeling more confident in taking care of their hair.
