We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Veronica Burchill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I truly work with the best people in my business, and I am so grateful for that. One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on was one of my 2022 weddings in August. The couple had families each from overseas, and there was a bit of a language barrier between the two families of the couple that was marrying. The bride’s entire family flew in from overseas, which was a very big deal, as well as the groom’s family as well. From the morning of the wedding to the send off, it was such a happy day with everyone meeting and celebrating the couple’s love for one another. Although there was a language barrier, that did not stop it from being one of the most emotional wedding days I’ve ever witnessed.
It is so meaningful that I was the photographer chosen to capture these intimate and special moments for them. I truly cannot think of a greater honor than that.
I look back on that wedding and feel true joy knowing that love is so amazing with how it can cross languages and countries, all while uniting a group of people that maybe otherwise would not have met. That is so special.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Veronica Burchill and I am the owner of Veronica Katherine Photography. I am a destination wedding, elopement, and brand photographer based in Knoxville, TN.
This business has been such a blessing over the past few years and I am incredibly grateful that I was able to find my passion after being a swimmer for the previous 18 years of my life. When I “retired” from swimming, I threw myself into my photography, and it helped me move past and grieve that other aspect of my life that came to an end.
This job means the world to me and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I absolutely love having a business where I’m able to capture and document memories for people, while it also provides me with a creative outlet as well.
I’m the most proud of my ability to capture the real moments. Although all weddings and events have staged moments, I focus on moments where emotions are real and not posed.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When I first started, I was very disorganized. CRMs such as Dubsado and HoneyBook are SO helpful for photographers and other creatives to send out emails, automate messages and information. collect payments, send invoices, send contracts, organize your calendar, etc. I highly recommend finding a CRM platform to help your business stay structured and help yourself work smarter.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
As photographers and creative business owners, we are our own brand most of the time. One of the most important things that we can do is build our own brand and be true to ourselves. So, I suggest showing your face on social media, be you, be real, and allow your fellow creatives and clientele to know who the person running the business is.
