We were lucky to catch up with Veronica recently and have shared our conversation below.
Veronica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
One of the best pieces of advice I ever gave a client had very little to do with workouts or calories—and everything to do with boundaries.
She was doing great physically—training consistently, eating better, feeling stronger—but as holiday family gatherings approached, she came to me stressed. She said, “Every time I’m around my family, they question my choices—especially when I don’t want to drink. I feel like I have to explain myself or give in.”
I told her this:
“You don’t owe anyone an explanation for choosing what’s best for your body. Your lifestyle doesn’t need their approval—it needs your commitment.”
We practiced simple, confident responses that didn’t invite debate—things like, “I feel really good this way,”—and then strategically changing the topic right after. Asking a question, commenting on the food, or shifting the conversation so it didn’t turn into a discussion about her choices. No over-explaining. No defending.
The result was powerful. She went to those gatherings, didn’t drink, didn’t justify herself, and left feeling proud instead of guilty. That confidence carried into her training, her nutrition, and how she showed up in everyday life.
Her physical progress has continued—but the real win is mental!! She learned that lasting weight loss isn’t just about discipline; it’s about boundaries, self-trust, and knowing when to stand firm—and when to redirect the conversation and move on.

Veronica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Veronica Nater, a certified personal trainer and weight-loss coach who helps busy women, especially moms, get stronger, feel confident, and build sustainable health habits. My journey into fitness began out of my own desire for real-life results—not quick fixes or trends—but a lifestyle I could maintain while juggling family, work, and all of life’s responsibilities.
Today, through That Fit Mom LLC, I provide personalized training (in-person & online), nutrition coaching, and lifestyle strategies that are realistic for real lives. I help my clients break out of the cycle of frustration and self-doubt by focusing on confidence, consistency, and community first—because without those, the best workout plan in the world still won’t stick.
What sets my work apart is my focus on the whole person. I don’t just prescribe workouts and meal plans; I work with clients to understand their habits, mindsets, and environments so that change is not only possible—but lasting. I coach with empathy, practical strategies, and accountability that feels empowering rather than overwhelming.
I’m most proud of the transformations that go beyond the scale—when a client stands a little taller, sets healthy boundaries with family, shows up for herself, and realizes she deserves the investment she’s making in her health. That’s the work I really care about.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In a market that’s heavily saturated with personal trainers and coaches, showing up as my authentic self has been a differentiator in allowing me to build reputation. I don’t position myself as perfect—I position myself as consistent. Clients trust me because they see that I practice what I teach, adapt when life gets busy, and stay committed even when conditions aren’t ideal.
Over time, that visibility and real-life example have built trust, connection, and credibility. People don’t just follow my content—they relate to it. And that relationship is what has ultimately strengthened my reputation within the community.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the belief that every connection or mentorship I made had to last forever.
Early in my business, I was deeply attached to my mentors. They were incredible blessings, and I learned so much from them during a very formative season. At that time, my focus was primarily on helping women exercise and build healthier habits—and those relationships supported that phase of my growth.
As my life became more complex and my business evolved, so did my values. My vision expanded beyond fitness alone. I felt called to be an example of a well-rounded woman—mind, body, and soul. That shift required discernment, courage, and, honestly, the willingness to let go of what once felt safe and familiar.
I’ve learned that just like life has seasons, business does too. Not every relationship is meant to come with you into every chapter. While it’s never easy to release something that once served you well, it’s often necessary for growth.
I’m grateful to God for the clarity and strength He gave me to recognize that season had ended—and for the confidence to spread my wings into a new phase of my business with intention and purpose.
