Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vernita Sherman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vernita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business because for years I watched many amazing experts with products and services to sell have a hard time converting their podcast listeners into buyers. They’re excellent at what they do in their field, but their ideal clients and customers are not aware of that.
These established experts are consistent with publishing podcast episodes week after week and spending and time, energy, and money on making their podcast work for them, but they’re not getting results in the form of increased revenue.
Instead, these experts get praise and accolades for the number of episode downloads they get or for having wonderful guests on their show. All of that is great, but at the end of the day, they’re in business, and their podcast has become more of an expense than an asset.
Some of these experts have abandoned their podcast because of the low return on investment, and they are struggling overall to get in front of the people that really need their help.
My goal as a podcast marketing strategist is to show these experts how to use their podcast as a marketing tool that attracts qualified buyers and turn their podcast into a true revenue generating asset. This will not happen if they continue to podcast in the same way that other podcasters do who are not podcasting to grow a business.
I saw the need for experts who podcast to know that podcasting itself is a form of marketing. Most people don’t understand that. They think that they have to create content in other ways and do numerous other things in order to promote their podcast, when the truth is, the content you create with your podcast can be repurposed in multiple forms.
I’ve been marketing online for almost 20 years now, and back in 2012, I discovered how podcasting made all the other marketing I was doing easier to implement. Podcasting is one of the most powerful content marketing tactics you can do to help grow your business, because you’re literally knocking out several birds with one stone.
For example, podcasting provides you with all the content necessary for social media, blogging, video marketing (if you have a video podcast), and search engine optimization (SEO). All you need is a strategy that brings all these tactics together in a way that places you in front of more people who are actively searching for someone with your expertise, and then knowing how to engage those people.
And that’s where I come in to help. That’s what Buyer Attractor Media is all about.
This is the first time I have ever created a business focused on working specifically with podcasters, but I know how more experts are turning to podcasting to grow their business and the way in which they are taught to do it is not working.
It’s not their fault. The industry simply doesn’t have enough marketers in the space that use podcasting as their primary marketing tool. I’ve used podcasting as my primary marketing tool for over a decade, so I felt like I had to step in and help.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a Podcast Marketing Strategist, I work with established experts who want to increase revenue by using their podcast to attract qualified buyers. I can help them even if they’ve tried advertising or don’t have a large following, using the Buyer Attractor Methodology.
I do things a little differently than your average podcast marketing strategist because I’m not just a podcaster – I have over 19 years of experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and website conversions, and over 13 years of video marketing experience.
I got into the podcasting industry back in 2012 when I discovered how podcasting made all my content marketing more efficient and easier to implement. I started out by using the transcript to supply content for blogging and other forms of marketing online.
Later, I discovered how video podcasting made video marketing easier. Now I’m a big proponent of video podcasting so that you have both video and audio content to syndicate via RSS feeds and to repurpose in multiple ways.
Multiple iterations of my method have been secretly used successfully by private clients since 2014. I personally have used it on 7 of my own podcast shows, and now I want to share the new and improved version with experts who are struggling to convert their podcast listeners into buyers.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting is the story of my life. When it comes to career and business, what many people don’t know about me is that I used to be a McDonald’s manager. Not a shift manager, but a salaried manager responsible for inventory, scheduling, and other operational tasks.
I then left that and became a police officer. The same year I went to the police academy was the year I began marketing online. Nine years later, I left the police department and focused all my attention on my online businesses.
I didn’t just pivot, I took huge leaps into unknown territory and loved every minute of it.
I didn’t make the most logical choices in life, but I followed my intuition and allowed for myself to be guided by spirit.
For example, I was not financially prepared to resign from being a police officer, but I couldn’t continue doing something that didn’t resonate with my soul. I was so agitated and was tired of seeing the worst in people. I felt this heaviness consume me every time I turned into the parking lot.
When I resigned, there was a feeling of relief that I’m not able to put into words. I felt so free. It was such an amazing feeling, despite my financial circumstances.
I want to make a point in saying that when something doesn’t feel right inside and you continue to subject yourself to that thing, you’re emanating an energy that sets you up for attracting everything in your life that you don’t want. Plus, you’re stressing your body out in ways that you may not be aware of.
Please listen to the voice of your soul and don’t be afraid to pivot into the thing you’ve been wanting to do for years. Don’t let logic stop you, because the soul of you knows what will make you truly happy.
Your happiness and health is more important than whatever reasons your logical mind comes up with to stop you from pivoting.
Your choices don’t always have to make sense to the mind as long as it makes sense to the soul.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Video has always been the best source of new clients for me. That is why I highly recommend that experts who podcast for business start video podcasting and have both an audio and video version of their podcast.
I also recommend that from time to time you create screen sharing videos and actually show people what you’re talking about instead of just painting a picture for them with words.
