Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Verena Lake. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Verena, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Lovely question! My mission is to eradicate spammy, money-hungry marketing and replace it with value-based and connection-loving strategies so that customers get the transformations that they’re yearning for and the businesses that actually care thrive. I’d like to be remembered for helping passionate female entrepreneurs turn their subscribers into thriving communities of raving fans who are obsessed with them and will buy anything they sell. After I’m gone, I hope people say that I was always willing to help, had an infectious, bubbly personality, and was all for helping women go from struggling solopreneurs to thriving CEOs who feel fully supported as they scale their businesses. More importantly, helping business owners that actually care about positively impacting their customers.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I help brands sell their products and services through storytelling email marketing so that they make more money and build deep connections with their audience. The thing that really fires me up about my business is helping passionate and customer-centric entrepreneurs serve their clients to help them get the transformations that they’re yearning for. It’s those win-win moments for me that really make me enjoy what I do.
Back in 2020, I worked as an admin/ email VA for a colleague and she was so impressed with my work ethic and the quality of my communication… she encouraged me to offer it as a full-time service. But the thing is, at the time I did not consider myself to be a copywriter even if I was naturally talented at writing… so I dabbled in a lot of other business ventures until finally in April 2022, I began offering email services. I haven’t looked back since I feel like I finally found ‘my thing’.
Today I offer premium email copywriting and list management services to help connection-loving entrepreneurs stop struggling to write high-converting copy and start supercharging their email sales. I help them fix their low email performance, position themselves as an authority in their niche, & build an impactful business with irrationally loyal customers… all without feeling overwhelmed doing it alone.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot in my business journey was shutting down my stationery brand, The Wealth Planner. As I mentioned before I dabbled in lots of business ventures in hopes of finding something that stuck. One of them was a physical planner for entrepreneurs to better manage their time and keep track of their finances.
I ordered 100 custom planners and didn’t sell them all. But that was a tough choice I had to make when pivoting because selling the planners became a distraction from building my higher-tier email services. So even if I didn’t get the $4k + I projected for the planner sales, I got priceless experience in return and decided to move on to a path that was more aligned with my grand vision.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
This is going to sound super clichê, it’s all facts though… my most effective strategy for growing clientele is being myself and giving my audience a peek into my personal so that they get to know me outside of just writing emails. Yes, I’m an entrepreneur… I’m also a sister, girlfriend, university student, food lover and so much more. People really care about who they give their hard-earned money to. The days of having a faceless business ARE DONE! As humans we crave connection, so just being personable and showing the real me magnetizes my brand and gives potential customers the opportunity to relate to me. Once they’re in my universe, they get hooked by my vivacious personality and high-quality work. Referrals are also a big factor in getting clients. That’s why it’s crucial to treat all your customers well.
