We were lucky to catch up with Verbosity recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Verbosity , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
We decided we wanted to take music seriously when nothing else felt right. Making music seemed to be the only thing we had a passion for. Plus we’re kind of good at it!
Verbosity , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a girl group based in the Philadelphia area. Nonetheless, very different from what people are normally visualizing a Philly artist to be. We rap, sing, dance, do poetry and so much more in the world of artistry. We stray from using any form of profanity in our music. A lot of what we say is for the promotion of a better world. Speaking positivity into others and letting people know it’s important to love yourself EXACTLY how God made you is something we strive to do. It’s so fun but yet difficult at times because we are normal people. We have our ups and downs. Days where we’re uninspired but believe it or not, us visualizing the change we can make in this world really pushes us to continue doing what we love. Music!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of my favorite stories! Earlier in our music career we signed ourselves up for one of those “pay to play” type of showcases. We literally were the last of around 15-20 performers to perform. By the time we got on the stage everyone was leaving, they turned the lights on, and the staff at the venue was cleaning up. However, with 2 people in the crowd we still gave them a show! It was kind of heartbreaking but we knew we had to go harder to insure it would NEVER happen again.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
It’s so easy to support upcoming artists, definitely with social media. All you have to do in listen and share. I promise you a lot of underground artists are harder than some main stream artist but we’re just not listening and giving them a chance. Give everyone a chance.
