We were lucky to catch up with Venus Sol recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Venus thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I only started taking my singing and music career seriously starting the beginning of this year 2024. I’ve always been interested in performing arts since I was in elementary school. I was in my school plays, drama club, choir, dance classes, and anything else I could try but I mostly joined groups revolved around music. I wrote my first full song with accompaniment in middle school in one of my after school music groups. It was about not falling into peer pressure and being an individual and my instructor came up with the guitar piece. It was such a cute song that I still sing 10 years later, I truly wish I had put myself out there then. I never did up until now though. Something that’s different about me now versus anytime before is that I’m not overthinking the process. Music is just an expression and I shouldn’t be ashamed of what comes out of me even if it’s just apart of a phase. I feel that the best artists allow themselves to be vulnerable and let their audience grow with them and see the process of trial and error. Since I idolized this career so much, I wanted it to be perfect when really I just had to get started and go from there. My mom, the person who raised me, is also a musical artist so music was a normal part of life in my household so sometimes I wouldn’t even realize how extraordinary my talents are since it’s regular for me. Whether everyone can do what I can do or even better or not no longer matters to me, I’m just going to be the best artist I can be and my authentic tribe will evolve.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a new musical artist born in Pittsburgh, PA but grew up in Brooklyn/Bronx, NY that’s still finding her sound but right now I’m leaning into pop. My next couple of projects are looking more like r&b though. You’ll just have to stay tuned because I just like to go with the flow which means even I’m not totally sure what I’m going to do next. My debut single is called Play and it’s all about picking yourself up after a situation that may have beat you down. Overall as an artist I want to make music that uplifts people. I want my audience to be a bit happier after listening to my stuff.
My mother is a musical artist so music has always been a core part of my life. It was always something I did as a hobby until this year 2024 when I decided I can start building a career out of something that doesn’t even feel like work to me. While I believe our mainstream music today is super fun, they often don’t have good messages and music is one of the biggest influences in our culture. I want to bring a little more positivity to our generation’s pop culture; I just have to grow to that point but I’m pretty confident I can if I work and hold onto faith. I want to be someone that my audience can relate to and feel a sense of confidence when they think of me. In my regular life people always seem to think of me as the advice friend or the “what should I do” friend and I want to give that energy to as many people that can find it helpful. When you have certain gifts, I believe you should share them with the world.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Pay for art! Without art this world would be dull but if an artist can’t make a living it’s really hard for them to share their gifts with the world when they have to focus their energy on survival. If you can’t support monetarily, we totally get it, but there are so many to support without spending a dime! Show up to our shows, tell your friends, and our music to your playlists. Treat us like you would an artist that’s already major. Don’t wait until we get big to start making your support visible, we need your support more than ever before then.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Even though I’m just getting started, people are coming up to me and telling me that my voice makes them feel good or my song made them happy and that’s what I live for! I want to be the person that you put on before a girly night out. I want you to feel like your softest, hottest, happiest, most upbeat self when you listen to me. So hearing feedback that aligns with these goals makes me know that I’m doing something right as an artist.
