We were lucky to catch up with Venus recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Venus thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Sometimes I think about how life would’ve been if I got into what I’m doing now, when I was younger. Growing up I’ve always been musically inclined so sometimes I wonder why I didn’t start sooner, but I didn’t have anyone to show me how doable being a creative is at a young age. In college, I was able to see people that I was in close proximity with use their creativity to open doors for themselves and that’s when everything became real to me
Venus, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a DJ here from Atlanta, and I got into DJing when I was in college as a hobby in 2018. As soon I saw the opportunities that doing something I am passionate about could give me I decided to share my hobby with the public. I like to think that I’m more than a DJ and that the service I provide involves curating elevated experiences through sound. What would set me apart aside from my music taste would definitely be my creative endeavors outside of DJing. I’ve started getting into making short films and business endeavors outside of DJing.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
People could do a better job of respecting creatives as people that are providing a service, like a mechanic or an accountant. We are humans and have lives outside of our craft, loved ones to take care of and bills to pay and payment for our services needs to reflect that
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have things that I want out of life and I see where my talents and work ethic can take me to get those things. I can’t see myself working 8 hours a day on something that I’m not passionate about, sitting in traffic, then waking up and having to do it all over again for the rest of my life until I retire just to have fun on the weekends and holidays or whenever I take PTO. That’s how people get into things like going to adult summer camp or work retreats. I also want to inspire others and pave the way for other young girls to take that leap and engage in their passions
