Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Venomous Versus. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Venomous, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
We knew we wanted to pursue a hip-hop/artistic path professionally when we recognized the talent we had at writing lyrics that meant a lot to us. The way we felt after writing down our mentality and emotions on paper then colliding that with an instrumental was euphoric. Regardless of the lyrics being blissful or dark, we knew that expressing ourselves in this manner was a path that we had to continue to build.
Venomous, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Venomous Versus, the Hip Hop duo is composed of lyrical poets Capital C and Tha Luck. Both born, raised, and inspired by our home in EI Paso. In 2015 we met while freestyling in a classroom at school. It wasn’t long till we saw how we fill both halves of the creative mindset when it came to making our music. We begin with listening to a beat and different rhythms meanwhile composing lyrics at the same time to ensure there is substance and vitality. Once the pieces are ready, we start tailoring it all together. We’ve performed our new music at the Barbed Wire Open Mic Nights. Listening to feedback from the open mics and other shows gave us the confidence that we were doing alright. It’s great inspiration. We love bringing the crowd together at open mics, family backyard parties or big events like the EI Paso Rock N’ Roar Music Festival and the All Elements Exhibition. It always makes us feel like we’re in our natural environment — despite how nerve wracking it was. On May 10th we sent out our music and a press release about our first album “V.V.”-EP to all major streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, IHeartRadio, Pandora and more. From the first listen of our music, the songs showcase their unique blend of classic Hip Hop sounds and literary lyrics. Between the chorus of the songs, the soon-to-be fans are sure to understand the stories being told within the words while also feeling the emotions behind the beat. We keep working hard, we stay committed and we stay consistent. Were not only growing through our live performances, but have also now begun a partnership with Beacon Hills Recording Studios — the same studio that produced local artists such as Khalid. We aim to connect with our fans, to give them music that not only expresses our emotions but can also relate to theirs.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
We find that sharing our thoughts through our music can relate to all kinds of emotions. Listening to the feedback from our fans reinforces our motivation. it’s so inspiring to hear that our fans can connect with our lyrics, making them feel amazing energy or helping them cope with their emotions, that to us is more rewarding than anything else.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
We personally feel that cities should reach out to local artist and do open mics or profit free shows. cafe’s should host events that allow artist to showcase their material to the public while streaming it live or posting it on their social media.
