Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Velvet Whip. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Velvet , thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
To the most of us, learning the craft of building an art space, while maintaining a day to day operation has really been a wild, sombering journey.

Velvet , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What we do: We are an Arts and Social Club that connects performance arts to a wide range of Philly audiences. Our unique mission is to provide a well run, high end stage to young, emerging and seasons artists from multiple performance arts genres- this can be Jazz, burlesque, Comedy, opera, theater, world theater… etc etc.
Who we are: We are a team of artists from multiple industries
How we got started: it was during the pandemic, the performance arts industry was pretty much dead… a few of us started conceptualizing a secret space to (safely) presents shows. We started with one show.. and today we have around 10-12 shows on monthly basis.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for us would be- with every new artist we speak with, we learn something unique about them. while the show preparation is often difficult and requires so much collaborative work ethics, our hard work will eventually pay off. When we see audiences enter into the space with looks of excitement, or are completely captivated during the show, and when people share our show videos/ photos on social media, it makes our hearts full.

How did you build your audience on social media?
We started a instagram account with a few followings. It was a relatively slow process because we didn’t feel that we needed to promote our space. We relied on organic audience tagging and sharing.
One of the lessons we learn is to have one designated person accessing the social media account to ensure general speedy responses and swift retag, and re-share.
To build a successful social media, quality, informative content control is o very important–Know your audience, know your range of diversification, and think outside of the box!
