We recently connected with Veeda Shaygan and have shared our conversation below.
Veeda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Throughout my entire life, I was always involved with music. I was in band, learned three different instruments, participated in interesting extra curricular organizations like a jazz and steel drum band. I just always knew no matter what I did, music was my purpose. In 2010, my sister and I watched deadmau5 live at EDC, creating my new obsession with the EDM/techno scene and since then, my goal was always to be a DJ. It took many years to gain the courage to begin my journey but finally in 2020, I knew if I never chased my childhood dream, my life’s purpose wouldn’t have been fulfilled.

Veeda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Getting into the industry, isn’t as easy as some make it seem. I went to audio engineering school so my professors taught me a lot and were also apart of the industry, meaning I was able to network and branch out through them. I actually got rejected a lot in the beginning, but I’m glad I did because it made me work harder on my craft and made me really focus on how I can distinguish myself from other DJs. I started working with an entertainment company to DJ private events, and the experience I gained from that helped me understand crowd control, reading the room, and made me more comfortable with interacting with my audience. I think a lot of venues/clubs main goal is to attract a big crowd of people, make their guests enjoy their time and most of all, express themselves by dancing. With the way I incorporate samples from around the world with new and popular artists, it’s a much different experience than your typical club mix.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission for my journey is to give people something to remember. I want to create an environment where people are free, and get to enjoy not only the experience they create but the music they discover.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Just because you fail doesn’t mean you’re bad at what you do, it means there’s room for improvement. Nobody picks up a skill and perfects it first try. The beauty of art is the experimentation part. You need to explore what works best for you and what doesn’t. Even if it feels like nobody sees your vision and it’s impossible to be where you want to be, your consistent hard work will always pay off and sometimes all it takes is one special person to recognize that.
