Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vee Green. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vee, appreciate you joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My first client was actually a friend of mine who attended the same church as is did! One day after service we went to the Guitar Center, as I started playing random chords on one of the keyboards he began to freestyle, and we began flowing to a point where a solid idea and sing were created just in a matter of seconds. From then I know this was something I always wanted to do, and so we began creating a plethora of works primarily in the Gospel and Inspirational genre, which caused us to continue to explore all genres. We’d eventually start recording and throwing events locally. Working with this artist inspired me to start my own band, and so I did and they also helped me create ideas for the artist to sing to. This band began getting called for gigs and quickly took off individually as well as each other. Now members of the band have toured, played on platforms such as NPR Tiny Desk, various awards including BET, and have been excelling since our first meet up in 2021. After that first meet up I knew exactly where we were heading , and the blessings have continued to roll in!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I originally began my music journey at about 14 when I started playing drums at my home church. After developing myself for several years and experimenting with different genres I began seeing all of those aspects of music that I’d like to cover, so in 2021 I decided to start a band that could help me execute the envision I have for providing musical services for anyone including our own members whether it be providing a band for a local event someone is asking for, composing, engineering, production, etc. I’m most proud of all of the doors having this band has opened and the vibes, sound, and experience we’ve been able to create at each place we’ve played at. When you hear our band play there are certain signatures like guitar riffs, chord progressions, certain snare hits, instrumentation using cymbals, electronic sounds, etc that you immediately know is us, and I appreciate having our own sound.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe the main thing that helped build my reputation is integrity. I believe that no matter the event we hold the bar for creating the best experience possible high. Music and musicians within the group will always be tight due to this standard that we like to uphold, and ultimately it creates a sense of relief or therapy, and liberty for the musicians and audience whether they are just sitting and listening, tapping their feet, moving their heads, dancing , or even singing along. There’s no better feeling than feeling that vibration!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The main lesson I had to unlearn was how to take opinions and criticism. Before I’d take everything to heart and it would effect my confidence when going forward with decisions even in playing, but learning to not take everything so personally allowed me to go much further from a physical, mental, and emotional standpoint not only in music, but in life as well.
