Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vaughn Granger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vaughn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In 2007 I became a partner in my family’s clothing business. In 2008 I got shingles as a 25 year old because of the recession and making poor financial decisions.
In 2016, I launched Liam John USA which was my first “big boy” business.
Since I began working in 2001 I have properly started 12 different businesses. Only 4 of them have made money.
Most people view being an entrepreneur as risky. I would argue that everything is “risky.”
If you work for a large company you are “at risk” if they suddenly decide to lay off a bunch of people. I won’t fire myself (today at least).
Having a third child was scary as shit for me.
I don’t know…
So many people are afraid of risk, but the truth is that they risk their happiness because they feel like it may be too “risky…”

Vaughn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up on a horse farm in rural South Carolina. My father started a clothing retail store in 1978. I joined the operation in 2001 as a shipping and receiving manager.
Now I own multiple brick & mortar retail locations, a clothing brand and a manufacturing operation in addition to coaching others.
I help guys feel more confident in their clothes and build their own “personal brand.”
I’ve since used that as a jumping off point to help guys design the lives they want: their bodies, their mental strength, their relationships, and their businesses.
I’m a huge believer that we are all capable of incredible things, but that most of us are holding ourselves back.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2007/2008 the recession hit. I had just become a new business owner. I bought a new house, two new cars and had our first child. We skipped three months worth of paychecks to keep everyone on payroll. As a result I got shingles from the financial stress of being only one paycheck away from not being able to pay the mortgage.
In 2016, I started a new business after an opportunity fell through, but I had a vision of what I wanted to create.
Just a short four months ago I had lightning strike an air condition units in one of my stores and burned the one year old business to the ground.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I grew up thinking that you could be financially successful or have a great family life. It was either or.
It was almost like anything above “x” in personal income was good, but anything after that meant crazy sacrifice and neglecting your family.
You can in fact make more money while working less.
