We were lucky to catch up with Vardarius Rozell recently and have shared our conversation below.

Vardarius, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?

The rate that the state of Alabama pay for home healthcare services is the biggest challenge to profitability. Compared to other states it seems as if Alabama is behind on times. This and overhead expenses for the day to day operations of a home healthcare agency can be difficult. Mismanagement of funds and you can be doing charitable work fast.

Vardarius, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I manage the day to day operations of Healing Hearts II Home Healthcare. This entails securing and managing contracts, overseeing staffing needs, managing cash flow and marketing. My mother is a RN and has been one for over 25 yrs. She is my business partner. I was enrolled in college at a nursing program in Birmingham Al, so it made sense. I learned all about business operations throughout the lifespan of running it and then dropped out of college to pursue becoming a full-time business owner.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

Robert Kiyosaki – Rich Dad Poor Dad helped me put action behind a lot of thoughts I had already been pondering in my mind. His reasoning and perspective help push me to make the decision on becoming a business owner.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

My side hustle was our home healthcare agency. I worked a full time job for years. I dont think anyone should quit their day job until your side hustle can pay your bills in full. Whatever you choose to do, start now. Start young, the younger you are the more room you have to make mistakes and bounce back.
