We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vanessa Wong. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vanessa below.
Alright, Vanessa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission with the Patterned Desk is to make things easier for the couples getting married. I made sure that the small details like menu cards, place cards, table numbers and all wedding accessories are found in one place. I am a mom and a nurse, I think it is second nature for me to take care of other people’s needs. It is important for me that things are well planned out and less stressful. I also made everything is made with love.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Vanessa, I am a mom of 3 boys and a nurse. I wear alot of hats but those two are what the things in my life that led me to start my business. I have been stress most of the time and I realized creating art and calligraphy had helped me change my mind set with all my daily challenges. So, I taught of putting my art out there hoping that it will inspire others too. Calligraphy is always my first love, it is such a simple and thoughtful detail to add on gifts or favors. Then creating patterns on ceramic came and fast forward to today, I found my childhood dream of creating something beautiful for weddings. I feel so grateful to be a part of an industry that is a celebration of love.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me are wedding fairs and reaching out to other people in the industry. I think they see me more than my products and it helped build a relationship. It also, created a place to ask more questions and see how each piece came to life.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think there are times that self doubt and anxiety kicks in, om every business owners. Honestly, it was a stuggle for me but what kept me going are the quiet mornings where I journal about my life and my prayers. With all the financial challenges and worry my business has brought me, it also made me closer to God and made me a stronger person mentally. Things that started drifting away as I grew older.
