We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vanessa Travis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My goal is to empower mothers, women and also men in knowing their full potential. As a parent it’s hard to put ourselves first but we must to be the best for those we love. The legacy I leave behind will empower my children to build their future as they envision it and to never doubt themselves. The same goes for my clients. My vision is to leave behind something that can help others live the lives they dream of without guilt.

Vanessa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into personal training after I had my son. I was uncomfortable in my skin, I was insecure and I was lost. I didn’t know who I was anymore outside of mom. When I started my personal fitness journey it was to loose weight. What I got was much more, I got confidence, happiness, a business and I get to do what I love and help other find what I have through self care.
I create personalized programs for clients based on their goals and their schedules. Fitness is not a one size fits all so I go off each individual client and how their body responds to protocol so it’s always changing. I’m all about detail and making it work with our busy lives.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I was working as a Business development manager for ace hardware and coaching virtually on the side. It didn’t take long to realize this is what I was meant to do. I loved helping others, I loved the energy but most of all when a client tells me “I changed their lives” that comment can give some real power behind the hard work. I started Too Notch Fitness so I could raise kids but also do what I love.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Building a virtual fitness business isn’t easy people come and go often so the business side of it takes time but continuing my personal journey and showing others it is possible.
