We recently connected with Vanessa Price and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What I think it takes to be successful is being committed. Through commitment, you can gain motivation to pursue success. Learn from the journey, have fun along the way, think positively, change your perspective, Be honest with yourself, take away distractions, and count on yourself. Me having 3 businesses is a story by itself. There were times I felt discouraged because things weren’t going as they should.I would ask myself can I really do this. Two of the businesses I started during COVID with little to no money but I had the faith

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! I’m Vanessa Christina and I am 34 years of age. I started my first business as a childcare provider before I turned 25 years old. I then went back to school to get my bachelors degree in education studies and graduated in 2019. I got into childcare because it runs in the family. My mother had a Family Child Care Center for years before she decided to retire, and of course at a young age, I was there to help. Although child care runs in the family, that wasn’t my goal or vision once I got out of high school. Once I got of high school I went straight for my Medical Assistant degree and graduated. I worked as a Medical Assistant for a year an a half before I decided it just wasn’t for me. So one day my parents sat me down and we had a family meeting, to make long story short my dad decided to go into his 401k to start the daycare and made it all mines. My parents always believed in investing in their kids. My dad is a pastor so his saying is “I just don’t want to teach you how to pay Tithes, I want to create them.” My goal and vision was to be a pediatrician, because I love kids. And although I didn’t become one I’m still in the field of working children.
I’ve had my childcare center for about 10 years now.
In the mist of COVID, I decided to venture out and go to nail school and get my license as a professional nail tech and opened a nail salon, I also opened my online beauty store at the same time called VC Beauty which is an online store where I provide cosmic products for men and women as well as merch. As of this year 2023 I decided to go for my nail instructor license so that I can teach and start my own nail school. What I feel most exciting and special about what I do is that I get to help others and make them look and feel good its not just about the outside appearance for me but its about the inside(their heart & soul). Looking back the most three qualities that were most impactful in my journey was staying humble, knowing who I am and loving others in spite of. The advice I have for others who are early in their journey is one, trust the process and don’t give up. Always gain knowledge to develop, go to workshops, and different events this will allow you to push yourself. Learn from other’s mistakes.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is money. Money and always spending was one of habits. Although my parents taught me at an early age how to save and manage money it was just something within me that once I got it in my hand, I just have to spend it. From the time I was in middle school, until I got out of high school, if I saw it I brought it. It wasn’t until I started my business(s) that I realize I had to start focusing on my future, and I wanted more out of life. Forwarding to today, I now save and have gotten very stingy, I also have a financial planner and has been helping me to be even much better.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is social media. Although word of mouth is and always be number one, social media in today’s world has become the biggest. Starting out, some days and weeks, I may not have any lkes, shares or comments, but regardless I still posted shared. That’s just one step, another thing I will do is be a vendor at different events so people will know who I am and what I do. I always tell myself, “No matter who supports me, I’m going to do what it take to be successful and get my name out there!” At the end of the day it all comes down to been patient, and having faith.
