We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vanessa Morrow. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vanessa below.
Alright, Vanessa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Creating a series of album artwork for the Singer/Songwriter Salamasina has been such an amazing and meaningful project. Our timing and trajectory of our careers have felt very aligned. And working with her on creating art for her debut album has been such a wonderful process. It feels like the dream collab. Our communication and rapport have been phenomenal.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello, I’m Vanessa Morrow a multidisciplinary artist based in Southern California. My passion for creativity has taken me on a journey from Pastry chef to professional artist. My background is in Baking and Pastry from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. As well as studying Fine Art at California State University, Northridge. My canvases have shifted from white plates to denim, skate decks, walls, and digital mediums. I also create inspirational art content sharing my knowledge and skills as a creative. My style is heavily influenced by the flow of nature, flowers, and Japanese tattoo-style art. I have a deep appreciation for the organic patterns and movement found in nature.
I provide a multitude of creative services including but not limited to illustrative work, graphic design as well as murals. When crafting visuals for my clients, I take their feelings, thoughts, and energy and infuse them into each project. I genuinely like to get to know my clients in a way that makes them feel seen and heard. I want to know more than just their business objectives, I like to hear about their hobbies and background story. All these extra elements help me bring a more personal touch to the final product. I bring professionalism and a fun side to the work, creating an environment filled with mutual respect.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I recently have had some success building an audience through TiKTok. I needed to get more eyes on my work so I thought I would try TikTok in January of 2023. I was nervous to get in front of the camera, but I decided to go for it. I started telling short stories about my journey into becoming an artist and my transition from being a Pastry Chef for 14 years. I also started sharing tips on a multitude of mediums. I found that being authentically myself has given me the most success. I have found my voice as an Artist and that has translated into the content that I create. I am enjoying sharing my passion for art and it has given me a new avenue to want to teach art through digital platforms.
My advice to anyone wanting to build a social media presence is to go for it, it sounds simple but I know there are so many mental barriers involved. Especially if you are new to creating or don’t like the thought of being in front of the camera. Or maybe you haven’t found your voice, making the process more daunting. But through starting you can find your voice. And you’ll learn new things about yourself as you improve. I have learned so much about myself through sharing and teaching others. The messages I get from people about the positive influence I have made in their life blows my mind, it has shown me the power of sharing my authentic self.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The ever-growing connections I’ve made with the most wonderful, interesting, and hardworking people.
