We were lucky to catch up with Vanessa Medina recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope to leave behind an honest legacy; A true to self kind of legacy. I hope people remember me for just being me; A tell it like it is kind of gal…simple!

Vanessa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am originally from California, born and raised and moved to Tennessee a little over ten years ago. I’m a 30 year old professional photographer. I photograph different kinds of work, from lifestyle, still, landscape, and music photography. I got into photography at an early age as I started out in videography and did a little of both for awhile. As someone who loves to travel, landscape photography was how I started out until I was asked to photograph portraits for friends and family. I had a lot great feedback and success with them, and I started to teach myself more and more about portraits and lifestyle photography. I pride myself in my ability to adapt to any situation or circumstance making the creative process less of a hassle. I’m very open to trying new ideas from clients and understanding their vision as well.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Oh boy! The most rewarding part of being a creative is there are so many rewards! Haha however, the most rewarding of them all, in my opinion, is getting to know who you are through your work and witnessing self growth in such a unique way.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word. Of. Mouth. Don’t get me wrong I have spent the money for some business cards and promoted my work on social media platforms but I am really bad at posting my work. Some people are all about content, content, content. I wish I could be like that honestly. As a photographer, I’ve kept my creative flow by word of mouth and never stop talking about my craft.
