Vanessa J., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
As a Choreographer and performer, I started generating income at a very young age. However, my first proud memory as a business owner came at the age of 17 when I choreographed a dance number for a female contestant that was in a beauty pageant.
I guess I was too young to grasp the fact I was working with a client at that point because at that time it was all about “the art” ,lol.
I have always be very passionate about creating and my craft. I was most so focused on the outcome of the choreography rather than the money I received from it. Nevertheless, I was grateful for receiving monetary value for something I have always enjoyed doing.

Vanessa J., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During the pandemic was definitely an interesting time for us all. However, for me during that I had also just had my first child.
I was still getting request for my classsses and workshops which one I agreed to do only two weeks after giving birth.
I had to be creative, resilient, smart, aswell as find balance between business and my personal life.
It took sometime to find what would work best for us and it all worked out.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson that I unlearned is that there is an ultimate blueprint to success that you must follow.
Of course there should be a plan of action. However, business is apart of life and life dose not always goes exactly as planned.
Giving yourself /business grace ,being able to adjust/pivot when needed is a major key.
There are several ways to get to your goals not just one. That’s what makes the journey exciting,
