We recently connected with Vanessa Gutierrez and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I’ve always had a passion for makeup, I meet 2 makeup artist who loved my makeup and wanted me to work with them, at the time I was in shock like wow you want to work with me I had always done my sisters makeup and hair friends but I had never done anyone else I was scared of them not liking my work, of people being rude or mean. After I had my first clients it was game over I loved it even more. I was 19 at the time I feel like I was a bit immature to actually start my makeup journey at the moment and stopped got married had children. My best friend Carla encouraged me to continue doing makeup always told me I had real talent to share. I will always love her for that. I started right before covid I rented a booth at Bridal Bazaar and it was a hit that’s were I got my first cliental from. I was so scared of failure of investing and losing money. Thankfully it’s been a wonderful journey I have learned so much on my own I’ve had my shares of ups and downs but each down is a lesson learned and I am so grateful for everything I have learned it has made me a stronger and better person as a small business owner and the fact that I get to work with people on their special moments in life makes it even better.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Vanessa Gutierrez. I am a makeup artist in the San Diego area born in Watsonville Ca raised in SanDiego. I do makeup for maternity shoots, quinceañera makeup to bridal makeup and I recently just added a new member to my team who does an amazing job with hair. I also teach one day makeup classes for beginners.
One of the things I’m most proud of is not letting my fears stop me from reaching my goals it’s so easy for us to stay in our comfort zone and not move forward with our dreams and goals it might not have been easy but it is doable and worth every moment of it being able to do what I love is an amazing feeling.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media was very difficult for me posting and learning how to post was a challenge. What I can tell you from being on IG for 4 years is that you need to make sure your pictures are nice and clear professional looking is key, hashtags are also very important, at this moment reals are we’re it’s at and being consistent with your content, giveaways can also help gain new clients and give others to notice your work.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for building my clients has been Instagram (g.beautybyvanessa) is we’re it’s at for me that is we’re I get 75% of my clients. And also from client recommendations.
