We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vanessa Godoy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vanessa below.
Vanessa, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Since I was a little girl I have always carried a deep passion for creativity and the arts but pursuing a professional career as an artist didn’t become quite clear until after my second child was born. This realization was like a light switch, I went all in and I’ve never looked back. With a miscarriage in between my first and second children life became ever more precious to me. Prior to this realization I had considered nursing, with the desire to work with pregnant mothers and newborn babies in the hospital labor and delivery unit. There is so much beauty in these moments, yet they are fleeting.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I remember telling my now husband, “This is what I want to do, this is it!”. I was ecstatic. I had been praying to find that career that fulfilled my soul. Like Mark Twain once said “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” He gave me a smiling glare back. He didn’t think I was serious, after all I was always picking up a new hobby, always learning how to do something new. I love baking, cooking, painting, interior design, and simply creating. Everything is art, life is beautiful. I spent late nights and days learning the basics of photography. It hasn’t been easy but nothing great ever comes easy right? Not only did I have to learn the art of photography I also had to learn how to run a successful business. Since then I have traveled across the United States and learned from many renowned photographers in the industry. From lighting to the most important of all newborn safety. I’ve invested so much in my education to provide my clients not only with an unmatched experience in the studio but also the most beautiful portraits and high quality products of the most meaningful moments in their lives. It’s a time to live in the moment and watch as your most beautiful memories are captured in time.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when families see, through my lens, the beauty of their lives. The moment they see their gallery and tears inevitably start flowing. This is the most rewarding moment and often times I cry with my clients. I feel privileged to be invited into the most precious and intimate moments and have the great opportunity of creating these portraits with them.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting a business from scratch is far from easy, especially while simultaneously striving to be the best mama you can be to two beautiful children. Believing that you have what it takes to be successful seems like a dream in the beginning. It’s a dream that you would love to fulfill overnight. I made a promise to myself that I would never give up. Giving up was not an option in my book. I had to be the only one to believe in myself and bring about my vision for my business when almost everyone around me believed it to be just a hobby or “side hustle” that would soon be a thing of the past. I invested anything I could into top of the line gear, education, putting together a client closet with couture wardrobe, luxury accessories, high quality newborn props, and outfits. I still have so much more envisioned for my business that I cannot wait to fulfill.
