We were lucky to catch up with Vanessa Cooper recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
Yes, I love to take vacations. Being an entrepreneur, I consider taking vacations integral in helping me release all the stress of my busy life. Vacations provide me with a much-needed mind reset. After every vacation, I feel so rejuvenated and much happier. It also helps me push harder towards achieving my goals and having the lifestyle I always want. More importantly, taking vacations gives me the opportunity to see and interact with different cultures across the globe. Besides, vacationing has helped me grow as a woman and, in the end, changed my perspective on life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I founded and started my company, Cooper Tax Services, in 2018. I started doing it as a side gig that operated in a two-bedroom apartment. I had a full-time job; hence I was not running the company effectively, but I eventually started running my business full-time in February 2019. Cooper Tax Services has grown tremendously over the last past five years. When the company started, it served mostly family members and close friends. Now, we have clients from Virginia, Washington, Florida, Nevada, Mississippi, Georgia, and many more states. It is a brand that I can say makes me very proud. Cooper Tax Services specialize in preparing small business and personal income taxes. When you file with Cooper Tax Services, you can expect a professional team that provides the best tax practices and effectively communicates with each client.
We provide a variety of other different types of services as well. This includes:
We are now located in Downtown Dallas. This year, we intend to expand Cooper Tax Services. We aim to become a service bureau provider, where we help others start their own successful tax preparation businesses.
Our most significant expansion to date has been the addition of nine new team members to Cooper Tax Services. I am very grateful to every one of the ladies for taking our tax preparation class and being a part of the brand. This expansion helped Cooper Tax Services scale in a major way.
Our motto is “We are Cooper Tax Services!”
We do taxes right and we are ready to serve all your tax needs.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my business clientele is providing a great customer service experience. I’ve learned that most customers like it when they are treated well and feel valued. As a result, they start telling others about their experience with my company, which ultimately leads to new clientele. I can say that this is where the growth of my company came from. The clients are the ones that make the company successful. We are honored and grateful for our clients.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
Honestly, I can say that my billboard marketing was my favorite. With only a few years of experience in my industry, it was an extremely risky decision. But I am all about taking a risk and jumping out on faith. My biggest concern was cost, specifically whether it would be a wise decision for me to do it cost-wise. I did not have a place to conduct my business when I did my interview for the marketing campaign. I moved out of my old office that same day. I also did not have a place where I wanted to keep my business. My office was like a baby to me because I had it for three years. I felt some apprehension about it as well as sadness. With only about 20 minutes to spare before my interview, I called my twin brother, Vyncent Cooper, to tell him about the billboard marketing campaign interview. I told him I was not ready to go to the interview because of how I felt. He did what a great man would do. He provided me with words of encouragement and pushed me to go. So, I did exactly what he said and showed up for the interview. It was the best interview ever. I left the interview feeling like I could conquer the world. Finally, when the billboard was put up, I was filled with so much joy and happiness. That was a priceless moment in my entrepreneurship journey that money couldn’t buy, and I did not even consider whether it generated more revenue or it was a loss.
