We were lucky to catch up with Vanessa Campbell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
Although I wish that I had started my Business sooner, I’m comfortable saying that I started at time when my mindset was healthier. I launched this business in 2021, but the idea was born in 2016, when I initially wanted to launch a Maternity clothing brand.
In 2016, I wasn’t necessarily the best employee, I was and always have been a hard worker, but that can only get you so far.
I had issues with punctuality and consistency. I believe that in order for you to be an effective Entrepreneur, you must be an effective successful employee. You must respect business and give yourself a mindset makeover before launching any business. I poured into myself and my growth professionally and personally in order for me to obtain the skills of execution.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As the Owner of All Things Dressy(ATD), I prioritize providing stylish pieces and inspiration to women to pride in their appearance, own their bodies, and embrace femineity.
I feel that women after the age of 25, are at a consequential period of their life-our bodies are changing, we’re prioritizing relationships and companionship, and we’re more than likely getting busier with our careers and personal growth, so it is so easy to loose grasp on your personal experience and work life balance. I created this brand to inspire women to tackle these day to day issues with fashion.
I am most proud when i see ATD customers in their ATD pieces, it gives me hope and reaffirms that my vision is needed in the market and community.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In a society where a person’s social media following and popularity holds value, I can attest that my resilience is demonstrated when I push my business regardless of my personal presence on social media. Lack of a social media presence can make a person doubt their ability to drive a business in comparison to people who have millions of followers that can guarantee sales.
I always seek to find other channels of marketing to bring awareness and secure sales for my business. If you believe in your product and the experience it offers your clients/customers, your brand will speak for itself.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Having a fashion business requires a lot of visual creativity, and with everyone shopping on their phones, I’d say that sponsored ads and engaging messages and captions geared toward women that want to be inspired has been the most effective strategy.
