Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vanessa Broin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vanessa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, let’s take a stroll on memory lane, back to when you were an apprentice or intern. What’s a memorable story from that time that you can share with us?
In the early stages of my career, there were many times when I offered my services for free or discounted in order to gain experience in my field. This gave me the opportunity to assist highly skilled professional makeup artists and learn not only tips and tricks for improving my craft but also how to conduct myself behind the scenes. This was vital information and experience that helped me throughout the rest of my career. I think it is really important for anyone just starting out to find mentors and opportunities to assist seasoned makeup artists, the time you invest in the beginning will pay off in the end.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Bee Pretty began as an idea years before I started the company. I wanted to offer luxury beauty to brides at their doorstep, and help them to feel confident and beautiful in the photos that they would have for a lifetime. Servicing brides has been the main focus of my business but I also do makeup for other occasions, personal branding and production shoots. I am also a licensed esthetician and my background as a makeup artist has helped me to create amazing brows and lashes for my clients. I love how both makeup and esthetics go together and I have the opportunity to work in such a fun, creative and ever evolving industry. Great makeup is definitely assisted by starting with a canvas of good skin.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The last few years created a period of significant change in my life and career, I moved my business to the charming little town of Charleston, South Carolina in the spring of 2021. I have since enjoyed getting to know the area with the fresh eyes of a tourist. Charleston is also a town bustling with weddings and events. It was the perfect spot to relocate!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
For me the best way to find new clients is referral based. If someone loved my service and recommends me to a friend that is the best compliment!
