We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vampisaurus. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vampisaurus below.
Alright, Vampisaurus thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Since I started working to pay for my career and later when I finished it, I worked in several companies but always with a boss and a fixed schedule. This is not bad at all but while I was doing hours at work I felt that I couldn’t develop the interests that motivated me as I would like to.
I have always been fascinated by the cinema world and the artistic creation behind it such as costume design and a few years ago I decided to learn how to sew and pattern to make my own clothes. With a regular job I was developing my sewing skills it in my spare time but I didn’t feel it was enough for me.
It wasn’t until about 7 years ago when I work in a craft company that I decided I also wanted to try to develop my skills and make a living from them.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a geek model and designer located in Barcelona. My real name is Sofia but “Vampisaurus From Outer Space” is my Pin-Up alter ego and the personal project I’m working in.
I love Sci-Fi movies since I was a kid, specially retro Sci-Fi, so on my way to start sewing and designing, I started cosplaying my favourite characters from cinema, TV & literature. I teamed up with the amazing photographer Monsters Inside and now I’m dedicated to bringing to life my favorite characters and creating new designs for original pinup photoshoots inspired on Space Age, Cyberpunk and retro-futurisms.
Cosplay for me is a way of expression in which I can develop different artistic skills and make tributes to my favorite movies. And in this way in which I’m learning to sew, pattern and design every day a little more (I did my first fashion show with my original designs this year), I’m improving my skills and I’m heading towards the goal that I would like to achieve that unites my passions which is to design costumes on films.
During the pandemic I also decided to open a shop make all sci-fi decor products inspired by movies and books called SciFi Nerds.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me is the possibility of personal fulfillment through your work. And in a more practical sense, the chance of working with your own schedule and rules, even if it means working longer hours than in a conventional job, but always at your own pace.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
What I have had to unlearn is that in any artistic work your art is not enough to become a professional,. Along the way you have to train yourself as a community manager, businesswoman, marketing, accountant, etc.. There are many microformations that if you don’t know how to manage they can take you away from your art. And finding that balance until you grow enough and you can delegate them to a professional is so complicated.
You also you also have to be able to put self-discipline into achieving your goals. This includes setting yourself schedules and learning how to use some tools to help you stay organized in my case.
