We recently connected with Valluvan K. and have shared our conversation below.
Valluvan, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
My love for visual storytelling started with a hand-me-down DSLR. It wasn’t just a camera; it was a portal to a different world. While my family saw it as a way to capture memories, I saw it as a tool for creation. I’d spend hours experimenting, taking pictures of everything – my friends, my family, the world around me. And the best part? People loved them! There was something about the way I saw things, the way I framed a shot, that resonated. It wasn’t just about taking a picture; it was about capturing a feeling, a moment in time.
As I got older, my passion grew. I devoured YouTube tutorials, learning the intricacies of editing, color grading, and visual effects. My Nikon, my first real camera, opened up the world of video, and that’s when my love for cinema truly blossomed. Growing up in a culture where film is so deeply ingrained, it felt natural. I was captivated by the way filmmakers could transport you to another world, make you feel emotions you never knew you had.
Then came the big decision: university. I’d spent years studying sciences in cegep, the logical path, the path everyone expected me to take. But my heart wasn’t in it. It was in the images I created, the stories I wanted to tell. So, I took a leap of faith. I applied to the film production program at UdeM. And while I waited to hear back, I invested in myself, buying a Sony a6300. I started creating cinematic videos for my friends, experimenting with different styles and techniques. Seeing their reactions, the joy on their faces when they saw the final product, was incredibly rewarding. That’s when it hit me. This wasn’t just a hobby; it was a skill, a passion, and a way to make a living. I could turn my love for visual storytelling into a business.
The logic was simple, really. I had a skill that people wanted. My friends loved my work, and that gave me the confidence to think I could offer something valuable to others. I knew there was a market for video production, especially in the age of social media. Businesses, individuals, everyone needs compelling visual content. My experience with photography, combined with my growing expertise in video production and editing, positioned me well. I wasn’t just offering a service; I was offering a way for people to tell their stories, to connect with their audience on a deeper level. And beyond the market, I had something even more important: passion. I knew that if I was doing something I loved, I’d be willing to put in the work, to learn, to grow, and to overcome any challenges that came my way.
The feeling was even stronger than the logic. It was a gut feeling, a sense of purpose. I was tired of the ‘safe’ path, the one that didn’t ignite my soul. I knew that if I didn’t pursue my passion, I’d always regret it. I had a burning desire to create, to tell stories, to bring visions to life. And I had the drive to make it happen. I was willing to learn, to adapt, to hustle. I also had the support of my friends and family, who encouraged me to follow my dreams. They saw the passion in my eyes, the dedication I had to my craft. And that support, combined with my own inner drive, gave me the confidence to take the leap. I am still learning and that was I love with what I do.

Valluvan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into the world of film and video started, believe it or not, with music videos. I began by connecting with artists in my city, helping them bring their musical visions to life through compelling visuals. That initial experience sparked a passion that’s been burning ever since.
What I do is create cinematic and visually stunning videos. Whether I’m directing, filming, or editing, my goal is to craft pieces that are not only beautiful to watch but also tell a story. I offer a range of services, from music videos to corporate videos, promotional videos, documentaries, short films, photography and etc. Essentially, if you need a story told visually, I can help.
The biggest problem I solve for my clients is bringing their visions to life. Whether it’s a musician wanting to capture the essence of their music, a business needing to connect with their audience, or an individual with a story to tell, I help them translate their ideas into impactful videos. I take the time to understand their goals, their message, and their target audience, and then I use my skills and creativity to craft a video that achieves those objectives.
What sets me apart? I think it’s a combination of a few things. First, my dedication to quality. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my craft. I pour my heart and soul into every project, ensuring that the final product is something I’m truly proud of. Second, my passion for storytelling. I believe that every video should tell a story, whether it’s a grand narrative or a subtle emotional undercurrent. And third, my commitment to my clients. I build strong relationships with the people I work with, and I’m always striving to exceed their expectations.
I’m incredibly proud of the positive impact my work has had on my clients. Seeing their joy and satisfaction when they receive the final video is the greatest reward. It fuels my passion and motivates me to keep pushing my creative boundaries.
The main thing I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know about me and my brand is that I’m deeply passionate about what I do. I believe in the power of visual storytelling, and I’m committed to creating videos that are not only beautiful but also meaningful. I’m also a firm believer in discipline. It’s essential in this industry, and it’s a value I try to embody in all aspects of my life. It’s not just about the art; it’s about the dedication, the professionalism, and the commitment to excellence. So, if you’re looking for a filmmaker who is passionate, dedicated, and committed to delivering high-quality work, I’d love to connect!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Doing what you love and just being creative

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I went to a camera store to check what is a good option to buy for a beginner’s camera. After speaking to some workers there, I had an idea of what I wanted and the budget I needed for it. So, since I used to work as a dishwasher in a neighbourhood restaurant, I saved up some money slowly I Got my first big gear.
