We recently connected with Vallissa Branscomb and have shared our conversation below.
Vallissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally when I made my first set of heels. I was immediately blown away at how nice they had turned out. I wanted to make something to remember my mothers by so I took different patterns from items and put on chocolate.
Vallissa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Vallissa Branscomb and I am a self taught Confectionery Artist. I make edible shoes and purses with a very different twist on chocolate. My art is very unique as it is customizable and edgy. My pieces are rare because I customize almost everything and usually will not make it twice. They are displayable pieces for up to a year. I got into making chocolate after watching a video of a man in Italy making high heels. I wanted to honor my late mothers by putting the patterns I saw them wear on dresses and shoes into my chocolate art.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is freedom. Take art for example it comes in so many forms. I love that I can make people look twice and question if my candy is real or not..
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
The resources I wish I knew about were electronic cutters and molds. They save me a lot of time because I do not have to cut images individually by my hand. The molds made handling chocolate easier also.
