We recently connected with Valise Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Valise, thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
Being part of a couple’s wedding day gives me the opportunity to give them everlasting memories. I want to make that day so very special, To each couple I give a thank you gift for allowing me to be a part of their day. To each couple I give a thank you card that expresses my heartfelt appreciation, my business card, candy and other items that I include vary. If I officiate a formal wedding and write a personalized wedding script to use for the ceremony, I give the couple a copy printed on card stock paper so they can look back on their day and remember the special moments as they become joined in union. Couples have been so appreciated and many times shocked that I gave them a thank you gift but I want each and every couple know how appreciative I am that I had the honor to officiate their ceremony.
Also, I want the couples to feel as though we are friends for life and will always be here if they need someone to talk to in difficult relationship times. I approach officiating as a ministry to share love with everyone that I encounter and make them feel loved.
Valise, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into the wedding officiant and notary industry began over 8 years ago when I discovered my passion for helping couples celebrate their love in meaningful and memorable ways. What started as a simple desire to support people during their most intimate, life-changing moments has blossomed into a fulfilling career, allowing me to officiate over 1,300 ceremonies to date.
As an ordained officiant and minister, I provide services throughout Tennessee and beyond, officiating weddings, vow renewals, commitment ceremonies, and special ministerial blessings. In addition, I serve as a Notary Public for the State of Tennessee, helping clients with both legal documents and ensuring their weddings are legally binding. My availability from 9 am to 8 pm, seven days a week, ensures that I can be flexible and accessible to my clients’ needs.
At Weddings by Valise, we offer a variety of wedding packages to cater to each couple’s unique desires. From intimate elopements and quick “Just Make it Official” services to elaborate Vegas-style weddings, we tailor each experience to fit the couple’s vision. In partnership with Farmstead Coffee Co., we even offer elopement ceremonies where couples receive a $15 gift card for coffee or any drink—a special treat to make the occasion even more memorable.
What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to personalization and genuine care. I believe that every love story is unique, and I strive to ensure each ceremony reflects the personalities and wishes of the couple. With over 275 glowing reviews on my Google Business Profile, I’m proud to know that clients consistently highlight my professionalism, respect, and heartfelt service.
I’m particularly proud of the impact my books have had on emerging officiants. I offer coaching services for those interested in entering the officiant or notary field, with mentorship programs ranging from four to six weeks, along with flexible payment plans. Helping others build their own successful officiant businesses brings me immense joy, and I’m always ready to support new officiants or those exploring whether this rewarding path is right for them.
One of my greatest joys is the lasting relationships I form with my clients. It’s not just about officiating a ceremony—it’s about becoming part of one of the most important days of their lives. I’m honored by the trust I’ve earned over the years, as evidenced by the couples who return for vow renewals and recommend me to their friends and family.
If there’s one thing I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know, it’s that I am fully dedicated to making your special day as stress-free and meaningful as possible. Whether you’re looking for a simple legal ceremony or a grand wedding, I approach every event with the same level of passion and dedication. I’m here to listen, guide, and create a ceremony that truly reflects who you are as a couple.
What truly distinguishes my services is the deep connection I forge with each couple, rooted in true Southern hospitality. I take pride in celebrating with couples and sharing in their joy as they embark on their new journey together. I am also dedicated to provide professional services with an unwaivering commitment to each and every couple that I service.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I started full-time as a signing agent handling real estate transactions and officiating was a side-hustle to that business but has grown into my full-time focus. Scaling it up has required consistent marketing to create the milestones that will give me visibility to get me hired by couples. I have weddings scripts published on the American Marriage Ministries website. I have been on Channel 5 as a featured story for an elopement I conducted on Christmas Day 2018. I am a Wedding Wire Couples Award Winner because of my heartfelt customer service to each and every couple. My proudest moment was when I sold my first copy of my book How to Create a Successful Wedding Officiant Business in September, 2023. I have conducted one-day crash course sessions and participants were inspired by the day and continue to reach out for guidance. Many have grown a successful business which makes me proud to know that I can be a part of their journey.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Each year in business brings its own unique experiences, and at the end of every year, I take time to assess where I want to steer my business moving forward. I reflect on necessary changes and consider which services I want to prioritize.
This process of pivoting annually has become a key part of my growth strategy. I encourage every business owner to regularly evaluate their own business to identify opportunities for improvement and discover ways to elevate it to the next level.
