Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Valery Martinez . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Valery , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Yes! I have no doubt in my mind that my career as a make artist is my path. I use to work a corporate America job and I didn’t hate it, I was an administrator and I think I was good at my job, I’m a very detailed and organized person. I just didn’t like the routine, everyday is the same nothing changes, I also didn’t like the 8 hours in one place sitting at a desk doing computer work. I like to finish my job and move on with my day. Yes, but only because I still do admin work for my business, I think about how everything serves it’s purpose thanks to the regular 9-5 jobs I have worked in the past I’ve been able to apply what I used to practice into my business in the corporate department such as invoicing, contracts, accounting programs, managing and maintaining a business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Of course, My name is Valery Martinez, Im a South Florida makeup artist I have a hair and makeup team for weddings and other occasions that requires our beauty expertise services. I think I have always been a creative person with a vision I practiced arts and crafts all through my school years. I developed a passion for makeup and ran with the idea of becoming a makeup artist.
My team and I provide an excellent service to our clients from customer experience to our professional artist/stylist skills, we smooth out their concerns by not having to worry about hair and makeup on a very special day, big events or photoshoots. Hair and makeup plays a big roll on our clients ideal desired look and esthetics, you may have the full outfit together but the look is not completed with out some glamorous hair and makeup.
I think is my character and personality. I know great and skillful people in my industry I’m not sure how they run and serve their business or the level of professionalism they provide to their clients, I can only go by how my clients keep choosing me over everyone else, and how they have moved on from other professionals and given me the business, as per my clientele I provide security, confidence, trust, comfort, good energy, beauty and art. My advise is to always be authentic have something that is your’s that no one can compare too.
My team, a lot of work goes into managing a hair and makeup team, countless of hours perfecting and structuring how a group of professionals will represent you and your brand in the field. We love what we do, we love to make our clients happy and leave them beyond satisfied every stylist/artist has their style but we listen to our clients to personalize the best look for them.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I used to think that before starting a project I had to be fully prepared, know everything, figure out a solution to every possible scenario. I realized that I would spend more time and feel extremely overwhelmed in the planning of the project than executing the project itself.
When you are starting something knew, you can’t know everything it’s impossible. Is part of the journey that makes your story to make mistakes and figure them out along the way, because only in real scenario’s are you actually going to find and established the solution to any problem you encounter. You start to learn what works for your business and what doesn’t. Only then are you going to be able to change something a thousand times until you feel is right. I had to unlearn that you can’t have it all figured out before you actually put in the work…
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Aside from doing what I love, I think the most rewarding feeling is seeing the satisfied Reaction from my clients faces. When I am doing a Bride it is one of her most important day and once I am done with her make up, and show them their final look, I get see her eyes light up with happiness because she feels and looks stunning the most beautiful she’s probably has ever seen herself. I like to think that I make a little part of that, of that happy feeling she is experiencing. Any client who is extremely happy and genuinely satisfied with my my work and my teams work is the ultimately rewarding feeling for me.
