Valery , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I first knew I wanted to pursue a artist path is when I recorded my first song when I was 17 years old. It was such a relief from all of the sounds and words I had running around in my mind, I knew it was nothing else as sweet as being a creative artist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a singer, songwriter and professional performer. I got into music because I would always want to sing at church. I started writing music during a dark time due to my Grandmother’s death. Singing and writing songs felt like a way out of my own head and a way to express my emotions without causing damage to myself. My music and my voice sets me apart from other artist because of the tone that I acquire and I write music that literally has a meaning behind every word. I am most proud of being apart of artist music such as No Cap and being able to work with Al Geno whom are both superstars. I am proud of myself for never giving up no matter how much I feel that I am not enough sometimes, it’s hard to make it authentically but I plan to keep striving no matter how hard it gets.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is performing. When I perform I get to see what the crowd really thinks about my music. You will see some people nodding there heads and some people actually singing the words. That’s the best part because you know you did something right when you wrote that song. I also love singing on stage and showcase my natural voice.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I often go back and forth with music, working and school. It’s very hard maintaining all of those things when the main think I want to focus on is just a finger tip away. When I received my scholarship to Bethune Cookman University that was a time where I had to choose between certain shows and maintaining the focus I had to have to keep my scholarship. I would rush home for a Song4Song event that I was chosen to perform in and drive 8 hours back to Daytona to make it to class and rehearsal for my scholarship. My Scholarship was for singing in the Concert Chorale as a first soprano and it was very intense rehearsals. The fact that I chose both shows me that I can Do whatever I want to do.
