We were lucky to catch up with Valerie Star recently and have shared our conversation below.
Valerie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by the magic of colors and art. This fascination has accompanied me throughout my life, shaping my perspective and fueling my creative journey. I’ve hopped from one creative pursuit to another, finding interest in every medium and subject matter. This freedom to explore has been a rewarding journey of self-discovery.
Immersing myself in painting, drawing, pottery, sculpture, fashion, beauty, design, and music, I discovered a profound truth. The more I delved into each genre, the more my artistic skills flourished. I learned to find beauty in the unexpected.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a celebrity beauty and fashion expert and artist specializing in celebrity makeup and hair, wardrobe styling, set-prop styling, and painting. I have almost 20 years of experience in the industry. My work includes everything from editorial and fashion photoshoots, film, television, runway, red carpet, wardrobe styling, and commissioned painting and art installations.
I am filling the void with colors, like a mad woman with a paintbrush that never colors within the lines of conformity.
Art is a progression that is continuously evolving. It is not contained by any one subject, idea, or medium. Pulling inspiration from dreams, emotions, visions, obsessions, imagination, and the chaos surrounding us all.
Each series within my body of work manifests from its own unique story. Where characters come with backstories, mistakes become intentional, and the idea that two ordinary things combined can make anything interesting.
I am also the real Valerie from the Amy Winehouse song “Valerie”. Yes, it was actually written about me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being an artist is the endless journey of creation. It’s about discovering beauty in the everyday and transforming the ordinary into something extraordinary. This journey stems from a deep desire to bring dreams to life, crafting tangible expressions that resonate with others and invite them to see the world through a different lens.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are a concept I find challenging to grasp. As a physical artist, my work exists in a tangible form, and the idea that someone would want to buy a digital representation of a real piece feels perplexing. It’s difficult to reconcile the value of a physical artwork with its digital counterpart in a way that makes sense to me.
