Valerie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

Making the labels for my Va’Luminous Wigs & Weaves hair products was the most significant undertaking to date. That was the first project I would present as my brand’s visual identity and something I did all by myself. I started my business as a single mother with no prior experience in content development, and I lacked the extra cash to hire a content or social media developer. I can now easily create my own ideas and save money to invest in other aspects of my business thanks to Canva’s platform. Additionally, it has given me the courage to just do it! Va’Luminous Wigs & Weaves is a sole proprietorship run by a woman. Since I don’t have a team to turn to for assistance; this makes this experience of creating my own flyer, content and brochures more meaningful. Having the platform that’s easy to understand and create professional content makes a big difference for my business.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I became interested in artistic endeavors when I launched my company Va’Luminous Wigs & Weaves. As a novice creator, it has enabled me to express my rich imagination and my capacity for turning ideas into pictures. In 2019, Va’Luminous Wigs & Weaves was established. It all started with my love of hair and my realization of how many lives hair influences. For me, the delight that results from witnessing how something as straightforward as a wig or hair extensions can alter how someone thinks and perceives themselves is and will always be incredibly significant. Custom wigs, hair care items, and protective hair bonnets are just a few of the products I sell for my company. Customers must view and understand a lot of visuals for this. My ability to mix my love of art and my expertise in creating personalized wigs makes me unique. I’m a licensed cosmetologist with a passion for hair photography. I enjoy making unique pictures and providing unique wigs for clients to share online or utilize at promotional events and Canva makes sharing my work profitable and enjoying.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

When I first started my business, I was quite excited, but many of the challenges caught me off guard. One of them was the moment I made my first and largest order at the time. Before making this significant purchase, I had been a longtime customer of the company and had always been happy with the extensions I was given. I quickly realized the extensions I had received were not at all what I had originally requested. So I called the business, but as soon as I got their attention, they stopped returning my calls, leaving me with a bunch of unsellable poor hair. I have to act quickly! At this time, I was feeling dejected and largely untrusting of the hair companies in this area, but I was determined not to give up. I basically had to go back to the basic of how I started. I had to research and buy small quantities (from another company of course) to rebuild. When I started in this business, Facebook was the only social media most people had but I had no knowledge of how to utilize it for a business. It would’ve been great if Canva was created then.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

I feel content knowing the importance that my creative effort can add to others’ lives. It saddens me to see the extent of the issues people with alopecia, autoimmune disorders, or other types of hair loss are dealing with. My goal is to educate individuals on how to keep a healthy scalp so they can grow out healthy hair. To preserve beautiful hair both inside and outside of the salon, it is crucial and required to educate the client. It’s always a pleasure to make someone feel better and look their best, whether they’re looking for a natural style, a personalized wig, or items to help them achieve healthy, beautiful hair. I can display my work in a really original way thanks to Canva.
