We recently connected with Valerie Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Valerie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Silver Lining Promotions and Management was founded in 2014 as a family business with a vision to support entrepreneurs, businesses, and music artists in their growth. With over 15 years of experience in finance, accounting, and marketing, the founder Valerie Harris recognized the potential to utilize their strategic skills to empower others.
Partnering with co-founders Salella Reed-Harris and Jevon Reed-Harris (aka Magz the Outlawed) as one of the first artists, the journey began,by providing support through events, branding assistance, and project management. Initially focusing on the entertainment industry, they also worked with for-profit and non-profit businesses to offer exposure and community engagement.
However, when the pandemic hit and in-person events came to a halt, Silver Lining Promotions and Management adapted. They embraced new opportunities by helping businesses manage their bookkeeping and tax planning needs while also offering web design and social media marketing services. With a holistic approach to business success, they recognize that strong marketing alone is not enough – consistent clients are equally vital. Thus, they strive to provide comprehensive assistance in both areas to fuel their clients’ growth.
Despite facing personal tragedies along the way, Silver Lining Promotions and Management remains resilient. Through partnership with excellent promoters, venues, and artists, they continue to provide unparalleled musical experiences while expanding into new avenues of business support. As an ever-evolving company dedicated to finding silver linings amidst challenges, they are committed to empowering their clients with innovative solutions that drive success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up in a small town in Missouri, I found my passion for numbers and strategy games at a young age. I was always drawn to the challenge and problem-solving aspect of these games, which shaped my perspective on life. My mother, who was in the accounting industry and an entrepreneur herself, played a significant role in inspiring my entrepreneurial spirit. Seeing her navigate the world of business and witnessing her determination and success, I knew that I wanted to follow in her footsteps and help inspire people to achieve their goals.
In parallel to my fascination with numbers, I was also introduced to the world of music at a young age. Music became an integral part of my life and provided me with solace and a creative outlet. I found joy in playing musical instruments and exploring different genres. This love for music grew alongside my passion for numbers, and I saw how both influenced and complemented each other.
Upon leaving college, I became a mother and started a family. Balancing motherhood and work, I embarked on a career in the nursing field while also assisting with our family business. This experience allowed me to develop a strong work ethic and to understand the importance of personal connections within a business setting.
However, my path took an unexpected turn when I was introduced to the fields of marketing and finance. Intrigued by the idea of combining my love for helping people, my knowledge of numbers, and my entrepreneurial spirit, I decided to dive headfirst into these new areas. I was determined to use my skills and experience to make a difference in the business world.
This determination led me to establish Silver Lining Promotions and Management, a company focused on providing strategic business solutions to various clients. Through this venture, I was able to utilize my expertise in numbers, strategy, and personal connections to help businesses thrive and reach their full potential. Alongside running my own company, as a Business and Bookkeeping Consultant, I offer my services to companies seeking guidance in these areas. Leveraging my expertise, I am dedicated to assisting individuals in achieving their goals.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Maya Angelou is such an amazing author, she really holds a special place in my heart. When I first read her book, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” at the ripe old age of 10, I felt an instant connection to her words that has stuck with me ever since. Her writing just spoke to me and gave me so much hope that no matter what obstacles I faced, if I just kept pushing forward, success would be within reach. And it’s not just Maya Angelou who has had a profound impact on me and my approach to business. Authors like Robert Kiyosaki with his book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” Daymond John with “The Power of Broke,” and Stephen R. Covey with “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” have all played a significant role in shaping my mindset. They’ve taught me valuable lessons about staying focused and strategic on my entrepreneurial journey. These books have shown me that while we can’t control what happens around us, we can always control our thoughts and actions. And by staying consistent, acting with integrity, and putting in the hard work, we are paving our own path towards achieving our goals
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When it comes to my work, I always keep humility, honesty, and fairness at the forefront of my mind. These principles guide my actions and how I engage with others. I strongly believe in following through on promises and adding value to every interaction. Every person and experience has something to teach us, which is why I approach consulting with a mindset of sharing expertise to help clients achieve their goals. However, I also recognize the importance of giving clients control over their decisions. Collaboration is key, creating an environment where clients feel empowered and supported is a top priority for me.
Growing up in a small town has had a profound impact on who I am today. It’s helped me develop the ability to connect with people easily and find common ground in any situation. Building meaningful relationships and treating colleagues and clients like family is something I truly believe in. This sense of connection drives our collaboration towards collective success as we work together towards our shared objectives, supporting and uplifting one another along the way.
