Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Valeria Feliciano. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Valeria , appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always had a love for storytelling and knew I wanted to pursue a professional career as an entertainer. I loved photography and being able to capture different moments. I was the annoying person in my family who always wanted to take pictures of almost everything.
Coming from a space where entertainment was never really seen as a career was difficult, so I let that dream go for some time. But deep down, I knew where my heart lied.
Being a very shy little girl who barely spoke but had such big dreams, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in entertainment. But I just didn’t know exactly what role I wanted to take on. I mean, I was only 4 years old at the time. I remember being in my living room in Puerto Rico, listening and watching strong Latina artists like Shakira perform while I sang and danced along. It was one of those moments where I felt most like myself and wanted to take part in creating something bigger than myself.
Since I was a little girl, I’ve enjoyed the creative and performing arts, and from the first time I set my eyes on a television screen, I knew I wanted to be part of the entertainment industry. But I wasn’t sure how to get there as it seemed nearly impossible at the time. But as they say, it actually says, I’M Possible! Growing up, I had a passion for acting, modeling, and dance. However, I became more attracted to films and the aspect of storytelling. The idea of being able to immerse myself in another world and see characters come alive on screen was fascinating to me. It was an opportunity to disconnect yet reconnect with a different reality of life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but my family and I moved to Florida when I was five years old. It was a tough transition as we had to learn English and adjust to life on the mainland. Despite the difficulties, I always had a love for the creative and performing arts, especially acting, modeling, and dance. As I grew older, I became more interested in films because I loved the idea of immersing myself in another world and seeing characters come alive on screen. Even though I was shy and introverted, I enjoyed entertaining and performing for others (mainly my family).
One day, when I was thirteen, I was unknowingly submitted to audition for a local talent show and won a one-year modeling contract. This experience gave me the chance to shadow the production team, and it was then that I realized my true passion was to be a director and producer for films.
Participating in pageants helped me push myself out of my comfort zone and chase my dreams. During the start of the pandemic, I took a chance and released one of my recent music video projects titled “Secuelas,” which was nominated as a finalist for the Vanilla Ice Music Video Award by the Palm Beach Student Showcase of Films, amongst other festivals worldwide.
Recently, I had the honor of representing St. Lucie County at Miss Florida USA. Though I don’t consider myself a beauty queen, I want to use my skills to inspire, empower, and promote diversity through beauty and entertainment worldwide. As the founder of Snow Star Entertainment, I want to create content that highlights female stories and underrepresented communities through music/videos, podcasts, and films. My goal is to support the next generation of female and Latinx creators in entertainment.
I’m launching “Dreaming Sin Limites,” a podcast that shares female stories without limits and emphasizes the importance of overcoming barriers in various industries. Through my experiences, I hope to inspire young women considering a career in the entertainment industry and increase the representation of Latinas in leadership positions within the industry.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I would say that having the freedom to express myself and create something meaningful from scratch is incredibly rewarding. Seeing the final product and reflecting on the journey from concept to completion is an amazing feeling. When working on my projects, my goal is always to spread hope and inspire people through not just my content, but also the films and music videos that I produce and direct. I’m not interested in taking on just any project – for me, it’s about creating with purpose and going beyond the surface to share a bigger picture with the world.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Honestly, I wish I had known sooner about different programs that offer free support to creators, entrepreneurs, and women of color. Another thing that I wish I had known is the importance of networking and finding resources like support groups and attending events that align with my goals for personal and professional growth. LinkedIn has been a great resource to connect with like-minded individuals and develop a community. It’s amazing to see how many people out there are willing to help; we just have to be willing to put ourselves out there and believe in our purpose. Groups like women entrepreneur groups and conferences that you can identify with are such great places to start. Most importantly, surround yourself with people who will uplift you and challenge you to do better.
