We were lucky to catch up with Valentina Fory recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Valentina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
At the beginning of my ballet journey. I had to repeat 4 grade to start my formation in ballet. I didn’t want to do that and my mom made me repeat 4 grade and I was so upset because I was thinking that my old classmates were going to finish school first. Then 2 months later when I started studying ballet in the new school, I told my mom, Thank you for forcing me to enter this school, I love ballet.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always been very independent and dreamy. Always acted thinking about my well-being and it has surprised me that I am an inspiration for many people who have liked to dream and fulfill my dreams.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of my dreams was to be able to dance outside Colombia. I traveled to Europe trying to look for that opportunity and I received a lot of no response. Then my dad dies and he was always the person who pushed me not to give up and keep dancing. Without him in my life I felt that I no longer had to dance and I stopped dancing for a while. Then I had the opportunity to travel to New York (without having looked for it) for a summer dance program. And I decided to go and it was the greatest deception I was able to heal and accept my dad’s grief. And I discovered that the way to heal and connect with my dad is through dancing.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I would like to have my own ballet school and be an inspiration for many black dancers
