Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Val’Elizia Powell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Val’Elizia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
I’ve heard corporate America believes nail technician, estheticians and other beauty professionals aren’t real jobs. In fact it is, and it gives me more time to be a mother, a sister and a business owner. I was corporate America, living paycheck to paycheck. I’ve literally had more financial freedom as a owner/operator than when I was in corporate America.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started as a braider, than advanced to doing more styles such as sew-ins, quickweaves etc. Once I was enrolled in cosmetology, I learned that cosmetologist had a scope of practice. I locked in on the fact that I can offer many services one being nail enhancements. I knew then I would be a cosmetologist practicing as a nail technician. I practice daily, trying different techniques and trends. I offer all spa services.
I don’t feel like I solve their problems, I feel that I give a listening ear with no judgement, just listening. In my zone it’s a judgement free zone. We laugh, we talk business, and we talk life. I am that nail tech that cares about your nail health, I’m attentive to my clients wants, however it’ll always have a twist of Qu’Tee Klawz.
I would like my potential clients/followers/fans to know is that my brand, my work and I is always growing and improving.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m actually still building, however I would say to build on social media you have to be present. Daily activity on your social media platforms I will say is a must. Have a business and personal page highly recommended, but you still have to be careful on what’s posted on your personal page and especially on business page.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Definitely clients and social media. My clients are my walking advertisement, I absolutely love how my clients market me. My clients are amazing, they always ask for cards to give out. They are always posting client nailfies. I absolutely love them.
