We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Val Rain a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Val, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I’m really comfortable dedicating myself to music, found a unique way to express what I want to tell and part of my feelings, although sometimes I think about a common job, would have dedicated myself to being a photographer or a bartender.
The conclusion my mind always reaches is that you only live once and I want to live doing what I love
Val, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, my real name is Marcos, musician and composer, I recently released an EP and a conceptual album called Exotic Chaotic, alternative rock is kinda my thing, I like to tell stories through my music and I really, really hope you like what I do,
I’m very proud of a song called “I don’t belong to you”
Both the story and the instrumental are something that was born from improvisation and always like to perform it live.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
the applause, people singing the songs or dancing to the rhythm, have sometimes received messages congratulating me or telling me that they are fans of my music, that feels incredible and motivates me to continue
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
listening to them, appreciating their art, getting to know them, is what an artist seeks most, being recognized, it is very difficult and hard to achieve something as an artist, if you have a friend who is dedicated to something creative the best thing you can do is support him, it is the first push him need
