We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Val Gallo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Val, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
For the past few years I’ve been working on my project ‘END EVE’.
I started this project during lockdown when I was feeling very trapped and I needed an outlet to express my internal struggles. I wrote a ton of songs but it was really hard to get anything done at that time.
After a life changing event in my life, I decided I had to finish what I started. Through the horrible times, I held on to this dream and it’s what’s kept me going.
This project means everything to me. It’s like the phoenix rising from the ashes. It tells my story through the years…I feel like I’ve lived a thousand lives since I started this, and I’ve grown so much because of it. My debut single comes out August 2024, and I can’t wait to finally share this with the world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Music has always been a part of my life. I started playing piano at a very young age, and later on studied vocal training for musical theatre. I performed in theatre for a big part of my musical career but I always knew I wanted to have my own rock band and write my own songs so I took a chance and I moved to LA and continued education at MI.
At the moment, I’m working on my project and the single release. My music is a mix of pop, metal, electronic elements, screams, clean vocals, dark and heavy.
I would say the thing I’m most proud of is my growth as an artist and as a person. This industry isn’t easy, having the guts to keep going and being resilient is something to be proud of. And I will continue to work hard because this is what makes me happy.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve pivoted so many times in my life and my career. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a musician but I hopped around a lot before actually taking the leap of faith. I kept trying to find different paths that would suit me other than music (because I was very scared to take risks), but I was miserable with everything else I tried.
When it comes to writing, I don’t grow super attached to ideas, if an idea isn’t fitting quite right, I pivot. The best things in my life have happened when I thought I lost it all and when I’ve had to take risks. Pivoting is part of the process, things change all the time and we have to go with the flow. Art is fluid.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
There is so much I wish I knew earlier in my creative journey. But the main resource I would’ve liked to start sooner, is social media. I was never a fan of social media so it took me a long time to get into it. I always felt like it was a distraction and didn’t take the time to understand it. I look at it now as a great way to showcase my art and build a community. It’s an amazing resource for all creatives and I wish it didn’t take me so long to start working on that. But I’m doing my best now!
