We were lucky to catch up with Vaiccia Hamilton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Vaiccia, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?

When you start a business you think all your family and friends will support and when they don’t you feel crushed. As a small business owner you have to learn pretty quick that most if not all of your support will come from strangers. That’s why it’s so important to be social especially if you’re an introvert. Don’t take it personally eventually they will support but you need to put that focus on customer who will support and continue to support. Find your target audience.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am a self published romance author. I write about love and the different experience you go through with it. I am proud of the emotions and feelings my books have on my readers. Some can relate and others enjoy the emotions my books take them through. Working full time and running several businesses take discipline, hard work and dedication.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Social media is the main platform for any business but going out in person is also a big deal. Going to pop up shops has been a great way to connect with new and returning customers. Believe it or not but some people still don’t have social media or know how to do any of that so come out to shop is the only way to win them over. Having great customer service, treating people the way you want to be treated can take your business to the next level. Pop up shops help you come out of your shell and gives you that experience.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

I wish I knew about self publishing resources much sooner. Learning how to find your target audience and marketing yourself. Also learning to outlining in more detail and time management would have same me some time in the beginning.
