We caught up with the brilliant and insightful V Squad a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
V, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
It’s funny you know? Initially, what started out as a hobby and something fun to do to in my down time, transformed into wanting to learn more about the business side of my craft once I realized I could truly make a living by utilizing by gifts professionally.
The moment my full-time job started “getting in the way” of lucrative opportunities, I knew it was time to make a decision.
V, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What’s up everyone that’s new to who I am! My name is V Squad and I’m a Christian Hip-Hop artist born and raised in Houston, TX. I enjoy using my gift and talents to make music that points to Jesus Christ while motivating, inspiring, comforting, and spread love and joy to all those that hear it.
Born Vernon Hudson, Im a loving and committed husband and father of 4. My family is integral not only in my career but also in my story and music. My goal is to be the embodiment of originality, using my experiences and musical acumen to create an amalgamated and original sound.
Some of my major accomplishments include previously being featured on BET’s 106 & Park Freestyle Friday and opening up for acts such as Westside Boogie, 1K Phew, Royce Da 5’9, J. Cole, Common, Bun B, and Redman, and R&B singer Mya.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I absolutely LOVE when new fans hear me for the first time. It’s one of the best parts of opening for major acts that I’ve always enjoyed. Not only does it create new fans for me and help grow my brand, but for the fans, they get dialed in to spirit led music that’s beneficial to their souls! It’s deeper than just playing a hot song with a hot beat.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
This is a GREAT question and I’m sure many artist will agree when I say PLEASE like, share and repost on all of your Social media pages when you come across a new artist, creative, song, etc. Word of mouth exposure travels faster than ever before in this era of social media and viral marketing. Please don’t ever think “Oh I don’t have a huge following, no one will ever see this”. Your post could EASILY land on Explore, which opens the floodgates of opportunity and exposure!
