We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Uzi Makhdoom . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Uzi below.
Alright, Uzi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Im more happy as a creative,I have applied to other jobs and stuff but as a mental health advocate and bullying advocate I also go to university but online and I feel like I also feel like my life isnt normal and what a normal life is and I also dream like what a normal job and no advocacy is like and I can’t live a life without advocacy.I last time I had that dream was when I was overwhelmed and thinking is this my purpose and wondering if I was making a difference in the advocacy field and I feel like you just have to wait for the right tine for your advocacy to take off and now my advocacy is taking off and im like this is what im meant to do and this is my life purpose and this is my life and I should keep going down this path

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I actually got into this discipline because of my own struggles and I wanted to help people and I feel like what sets me apart from others is that ive been doing advocacy and I gave up a normal school life and any friends and any normal life stuff like clubs and stuff like that to help people and do advocacy on the level im doing it on and to be able to do what im doing I leave alot up to do advocacy and other advocacy things

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I actually have alot of stories that shows my resilience like I wanted to give up on college because of not feeling good enough or smart and I didn’t and its till in college and I didn’t leave my middle school when I was bullied and I didn’t give up on my education and I also had some issues settling down in my university and I got through everything and I still go and I also have been through alot of family loss and I still keep going in life

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding thing about what I do is I get to help people and I also get to share my story and I get to be authentically me and share it with the world
