We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful URBAN ROYALTY. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with URBAN below.
Hi URBAN, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I fell in love with art at a young age. Started acting young so something about those bright lights and feeling like your free underneath, just felt amazing to me. Then when I started creating music for myself and seeing the reactions from that. Priceless. I did small performances with my music and I felt that ability to move a crowd at such a young age. It clicked when I I did a performance alongside my dad and when it was over. Roses thrown, audience was crazy, and on my way off the stage someone yanked my pants. At that point I knew. 11 years old. Then getting older seeing adults get emotional behind the music live. Then in high school I made a remix to a record and that put me on Soundcloud charts. From then on, I knew this is what was destined.

URBAN, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Im an American R&B artist from California. my music is a unique blend of trap, rap, and R&B, with a heavy emphasis on storytelling. My lyrics are often introspective and thought-provoking, exploring themes of identity, self-discovery, and personal growth. I have collaborated with a number of other artists, released several singles and EPs, and is currently working on my 3rd album. My music has been praised for its soulful verses and clever wordplay, and I have quickly become a favorite among fans of the genre. With the unique sound and powerful lyrics, I’m going to make a lasting impression on the R&B scene. Im here to create. I want to make the RnB that makes seduction feel sexy again. This the red room, private party, backroom type of music. What sets apart is, San Diego RnB music scene is slim. We exist but don’t get the shine we rightfully deserve so with me leading the charge or wherever this goes, I want to lead the charge of how we look at music here. Im proud of how far I came. The ones who Love and been supporting me since the beginning has been nothing but loyal to me and for them I wouldn’t be here. The brand is only growing. To the new ones who’s here from other artists welcome. To who’s hearing me from the monthly tapes. Stick around. The only thing that the brand will do is evolve.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Personally. I only imagine myself as the one who can pick up the torch in this RnB vibe. Particurly in the type of RnB field I’m in. Im fighting to show myself mainly I could do it. I was born with a hearing loss, so things for me have been interesting to say the least. I want my name to hit main stages and be able to show those around me its real. Those who look up to me I want to show that it’s possible. I want to create a better life for me. My family. Worldly creating a sound and a space for creatives to just freely express. I feel the best here.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love walking into spaces and that random “Hey I know you” happens. It makes me chuckle because there are always so many questions that run in my head from what they know me from. We chop it up for a minute or two and they just get to see me humanly for a minute. Away from the microphone and away from the camera you know. I always get that random DM also from someone away from the city or state. Showing love because I popped up in their playlist or their shuffle. Feels good knowing I get that love outside of the ones around me. Shows growth. At the time time this comes out there will be even more new people who comes along and it makes me happy there will be more of you that come by. The accolades are fun but building and creating something that people appreciate is always rewarding for me.
