Alright, Unordenary thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I was a child watching the Jacksons biopic. Seeing the work put in to achieve that level of success was baffling to me. Being able to see them work with greats such as Berry Gordy, Quincy Jones and Diana Ross as well as observing all the love in the music from start to finish solidified what I wanted to do. as I got older, haters also pushed me to be an artist. I remember being on the bus in NC when I was 14 and telling people I’m moving to GA and I was gonna be an artist and everyone laughed at me. my own “friends” even said I couldn’t do it. When I moved to Marietta Ga ( GO BLUEDEVILS) Producers in my area/ school would not want to work with me. That is what made me become a producer and make beats more frequently and make a sound for myself. My whole life has been filled with music to the point I do not see myself doing anything else.
Unordenary, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Unordenary. I replaced the “I” with an “E” because of my actual name, Jorden, so when you look at UNORDENARY, my name is in the middle without the “J”. I also go by UNO as that is my producer tag and it is the short way to say my name.
I was born in Birmingham, AL to a loving mother and father. At the age of 2 my father passed away and soon after that me and my mother moved to Statesville, NC to be closer to some relatives. When I was 14 my mother made the SMART decision to move us to GA and that is where I felt as though my life started. I graduated 2017 at Marietta Hs and did some studying at Morehouse College for 2 years. After leaving college I been pursuing music, trying to network with different artists and producers and just overall doing what I can to get my foot in the door.
My music can be described as dark. I have always been inspired by artists like The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Drake, and the list goes on. On the production side I am inspired by Quincy Jones, Timbaland, Wondagurl, Metro Boomin, etc. I love dark minor chords/scales and just overall love that vibe but do not confuse me with a one trick pony. I am extremely versatile and honestly I can make any beat as well as kill it and if I haven’t done it I will. I always wanna be the best version of myself so I always remain a student of the game.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
there are numerous aspects that are more than rewarding. One aspect is starting from nothing in your DAW to finally having a complete song. Helping someone find their voice who never would have thought they would have one. learning a new technique and most importantly is finding out out someone still keeps going because of your music and seeing that all those late nights are benefitting the world.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
For artists, NFTs is our future. it cuts out the middleman. if I wanted to sell an album and some merch, NFTs make it easier so that no one is taking from me that I do not want to. I would rather sell my albums directly to the consumer and then that helps both parties because if I am big enough I can charge a dollar to buy my album. if a million people buy my album then boom you have a million with no label involvement if that is the route u wanna go.it then helps the consumer because you keep the album forever and it is cheaper than a music streaming service.
