We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Unison Frances a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Unison, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Like a lot of people the pandemic and the lockdown were a time of personal reflection. I know that on the rollercoaster that is life, I was hitting some bumpy lows that I had never experienced before. I’m usually a pull myself up by the bootstraps kind of girl, but I couldn’t seem to find my footing. Life was overwhelming, and my family seemed to be on top of eachother. I started slowly cleaning out our garage. I was decluttering things that we hadn’t used in a while and things we probably would never use again to create space for my family. As I shed the stuff we didn’t need, I started feeling better. There’s something about decluttering that gets you unstuck. I loved the space I created for my family. We did puzzles, opened the garage door and my boys would ride their bikes looping around us, we made lots of friends in the neighborhood as they walked by as well. I literally created a space for happiness and connection, by getting rid of things that were no longer serving us. As the pandemic went on, I started decluttering every area in my home, and I could feel the energy shifting.
I got certified as a professional organizer, but everything about my credentials was very practical. I wanted to dig deeper into the energetics of our stuff, the intangible. Why do we hold onto things, and why do we feel the pull to hold onto things just because they belonged to someone we love. This is where I took a deep dive. I learned how clutter affects men and women differently. Women feel it much deeper, as I built Go Goddess, I wanted to focus on helping as many women as I can kick the clutter, eliminate their feelings of overwhelm, and create space for them to breathe, to move, and create. I know how much my muse loves a clean space, if it’s not – the dishes distract me or the pile of mail is calling to me, and my creative moments slip away to tasky chores. When we live in clutter, our creative spark doesn’t ever have a chance to turn into a flame. For my clients, we work on clearing the clutter from their homes to create space and time for the things that really light them up!

Unison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I think I’ve always loved decluttering and organizing. Some of my favorite memories are sitting on a girlfriend’s bed with a glass of wine and helping her make decisions about what stays and what goes in her closet, and I wanted to keep these elements at the forefront of my business. The name Go Goddess Organizing, is part battle cry, a dash of cheering my sisters on, a pinch of Go Go Gadget, and a whole lot of fun. When you work with me, we go deep. This isn’t just about the pretty before and after pics. Clutter drains our energy and understanding why we hold on to things, and how to break the patterns in the good stuff that you can’t see in the photos.
I have products and packages for people at any stage of their decluttering journey. I work with clients both in-person and virtually to kick the clutter and unbury their inner Goddess. I love sharing my digital mini-course, “Kick Your Clutter – Regaining Your Energy.” Where we cover the energetic costs of living in clutter from your physical energy- feeling tired and drained all the time, your mental energy- not feeling creative or focused, and your emotional energy – the toll it takes on all of your relationships. Yep, Clutter costs way more than money and time.
My in-person and virtual packages are all named after Goddesses. The package that I love the most is a hybrid in-person organizing, and individual coaching container that is 3 months of us intensively uncovering and decluttering your home and your life. This one is called Freya, because Freya is a total badass Goddess just like my clients.
I truly believe that each woman is a goddess and is worthy of a home that is a sanctuary.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I was a public school music teacher and it was a good job. I love kids, and I love music. But during the lockdown, I started listening to podcasts of women entrepreneurs in the online space, and something inside me woke up. What if I did something different? I was so attracted to the idea of helping adult clients, specifically other women and being an entrepreneur myself. I worked through the pandemic to get my organizing credentials, and start building an online business. I wrote curriculum and ran group programs for women. When things started opening back up, I started the in-person services as well. My biggest milestone to date was handing in my classroom keys after 22 years of teaching.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I love building my business through social media, it’s a free platform for my brand and I am a big ham. My advice would be to be consistent with one or two platforms and provide value, don’t spread yourself too thin. I like using Facebook to build community. I have a FB group called, Eliminate the Overwhelm: Declutter and Organize your way to a Kick Ass Life, where I share tips and host a monthly free decluttering virtual happy hour. With TikTok and Reels you can reach beyond your friends circle and provide value and connection to anyone in the world in short video clips ranging from 3 seconds to 3 minutes.
