We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Uncle Leon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Uncle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?

Being “misunderstood”, as a result of my work is refreshing. My whole life, it seems like, being “misunderstood” has been the theme. The people that follow me, are starting to realize that there was never really a “misunderstanding”. I just don’t speak a language that everyone wants to understands.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

The last time I had the pleasure of addressing you all, I was referred to as Leon Williams IV. Since then Uncle Leon has become my moniker. Since the birth of Uncle Leon, I have evolved into a movement. I stand for that voice inside of you, that society is telling you does not deserve to be heard. I am essentially an entertainer. Nay, a thought provoking entertainer.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

The Alchemist by: Paulo Coelho

A mother, that looks like me, let me borrow this book. The only thing I disliked about it, was that I had to return it. I saw the words, the perseverance. I saw patience & prayer, for one’s purpose. The things that I do control, will be cherished. Knowing that it is all for a much bigger call.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Ma Dukes made sure we learned the basic concepts of having a civilized conversation. Tho, in the world, I found myself talking with no voice. It took quite a while to develop my voice, thru learning who I am & what purpose I serve.

My only fuel I use, at this point in time…
Is ensuring I die, a better man than I was yesterday.
