We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ugly Josh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Ugly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?

One thing a lot of people disagree with in this industry is GOD. I’m a firm believer of Jesus Christ and I stand on that, a hundred and ten percent. This industry doesn’t solidify God at all and I’m a huge instrument to his kingdom! Not saying I go around and shove Jesus down everyone’s throat , no no no !! A lot of people think it’s fine to seek their spirituality through false information but they need to find their spirituality through consistency & truth ! I don’t knock anybody for believing in what they believe in because I have been there myself but it takes a firm foundation to get into what’s already embedded in you. This industry is so demonic and so corrupt that if you don’t have God in your plans you will enjoy the enemy’s.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

UGLY Josh is the brand that I want others to know you can be yourself without any contradictions. Ugly means “U Gotta Love Yourself” or “Understanding God Loves You”. I started doing films and short videos on Instagram. The short videos branched out unto me hosting pep rallies for my High School at 16! Through me hosting these pep rallies at 16 this allowed me to connect with a-lot of celebrities and radio stations I couldn’t even see myself getting close with. I hosted 4 pep rallies at my High School 16-18 (1 per year) . I have contacted and worked with celebrities and influencers such as 94.5, Rich Homie Quan, MR.2-17, DC young Fly, B Simone & more . From the time I graduated High School and went straight into Film and started music production. The first song that I got placed did 100k on YouTube in 2 months and was placed on 105.1 radio for the song that month. Fast forward to today I own multiple businesses but my favorite right now is my hosting business called “Ugly Hosting” where I travel across the world and host private and exclusive events for celebrities and huge & private businesses. I get paid to speak and talk to other people and network with millionaires and people I can’t even fathom to even be in the room with. Teach others how to be themselves and stand out without the one begging for attention. UGLY is for everyone!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I built my audience on social media by being different and making content that pertains to me that stands out. My biggest advice is to create,create,create !!! Whenever you have a chance to create, do that and do it professionally like you already have millions of followers. You are a brand and act as such so you can get others to be drawn into your brand. Be you.Be Different. Stay consistent.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My goal right now is to be the light to everyone that sees me and be the impact that I’m called to be. By having this goal this requires me to be absolutely myself and give permission for others for them to be themselves also. This is also risky because when you finally make the decision to walk in the calling that you’re supposed to be a lot of people can… either 1. People will Celebrate you- there will be people who will be glad to see you change into the person that they alway imagined you to be , it’s quite pleasant. 2. People will Judge you – This normally comes from people who used to feed off you when you weren’t your authentic self. These are the people who liked you when you weren’t comfortable being you. 3. People will perceive you differently. This can be both positive or negative. Everyone always has their own opinion and is entitled to it but the comments will impact and affect more because you consumed more value. In conclusion I desire people to be safe around me and feel as if they can be their authentic self with no discretions.
