We were lucky to catch up with Tzu-Jung Kung recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tzu-Jung, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
During that period, as the prevalence of AI rose, the company no longer required my services, and I was let go. It was a somewhat turbulent time for me, filled with negativity, as I questioned my abilities and suitability for the industry.
At that juncture, a friend invited me to collaborate on a game project. We resonated on many aspects and quickly got the project off the ground. He was much more experienced in our field, imparting valuable skills and feedback throughout the project, from which I learned tremendously and felt a sense of progress.
Beyond our professional collaboration, we shared enjoyable conversations, often chatting for hours about various topics, both work-related and personal, becoming confidants to each other. Such a bond is rare and precious, especially as one grows older and realizes that many friendships are often based on utilitarian motives, particularly in the workplace.
My friend extended a helping hand when I needed it the most, uplifting me during my lows. Through our project, we progressed together and became close friends who could talk about anything. My gratitude towards him cannot be adequately expressed in words. He is Tsz Chung Lau, an exceptional concept designer.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Tzu-Jung Kung, a concept artist from Taiwan. I hold a Master’s degree in Interactive Design from Taipei Tech. I worked as a 2D game artist for both gambling and game supply companies.
After resigning, I freelanced and participated in Kloudius Interactive’s VR virtual concert project. Currently, I serve as a visual art designer and part-time art teacher.
During my studies, I pursued Game Development and Simulation at The Hague University in the Netherlands as an exchange student, focusing on concept art and level design, and engaging in various game project productions. I also created poster illustrations for Qun Li Foods BV and have been a longstanding collaboration with Jagaco, a game studio based in the Netherlands.
—————————————-
I majored in game development in university and started participating in game production early on. I have some experience in game project development and a vast collection of artworks, which greatly aided my entry into the gaming industry.
I initially specialized in drawing characters in the Japanese style and later learned scene conceptualization. I can create cute illustrations, design avatars, convert photos into cartoon styles, and also design posters. I am also skilled in pixel art.
I believe in my strong learning ability and combined with my excellent communication skills, I can produce work that meets the client’s expectations. In one project, I had to design in an area I had never encountered before, but I managed to do it. Among many designers’ works, the client ultimately chose my design solution, which made me very happy.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I received mentorship from Sathish Kumar and Kevin Jick at Art Train Academy and shared the works I created during the course on Facebook. The next day, someone invited me to join their gaming company.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I have to say AI is a great tool for assisting in drawing. It can help you quickly fill colors or outline sketches, but I really hate it when it steals other artists’ artworks.
